Wolves of the Midnight Stars by Jewel Killian

3 Stars

Willa was not planning on being a healer as there has never been a wolf shifter healer before but when the last healer is killed the gods bestowed the gift onto her. This now means she can’t be with her fated mates Rafe and Jonah as those who heal are forbidden from mating. How will they work out this issue?

I wanted more world building as I am still not 100% sure why the healer having a lover is a bad thing. Ok so the previous one did bad but that doesn't mean all would be. I did like the overall story and characters. I just wanted more. If I remember to check out book 2 I probably will as I did like the writing style this author has.

Finding Monica by Susan Stoker

4 Star

Monica spent years dealing with her father’s abuse. This has taught her not to trust men, particularly military men. Once she escaped her father she decided to build a career as a nanny. Her current assignment is for the US Ambassador. When there is unrest in the country, and they are being evacuated she is forgotten by everyone but the little boy. He is so insistent that Stuart “Pid” Hall agrees to go to their house to see if she’s there. When he and his team members get there the house has already been ransacked but they find her unscathed and get her out. The problem is she saw someone there who she shouldn’t have seen. Now she has to go back to Hawaii to help them find their man. Will Pid win her over and prove to her that not every military man is evil?

I enjoyed this one a lot. Monica was relatable and Pid was super sweet to her. I loved that he was willing to work with her to overcome her fears and that she was willing to work on them. I am curious by how the bad guy knew where she was and that she had seen anything. If you like all the other books by Stoker you will like this one.

Fortune Fae Academy by J.R. Thorn

2 Star

Gina doesn’t want to be controlled and she will do what she wants to keep away from those who want to control her. She sees the future and she will do what she can to stay out of her alpha’s hands. However, he also sees the future and is determined to get her and keep her. Who will win?

The book started out strong, but it soon became a tangle and I got bored and lost. Gina’s mate is an alphahole who at least at the end of this book doesn’t make things better for all the shit he puts her through. He even loops the ones who’ve loved her into his scheming and made me not like them either. I just became very frustrated with the whole book and the characters. I wanted to save Gina from all of them for the shit they did. There are two additional books and I am not interested in continuing as I am that angry.

Despicable by Rory Miles

2.5 Stars

Bellatrix at 27 figured she wouldn’t ever find her fated mate. When her parents choose to move across the country to join a new pack she decided to go with. When they arrive she finds her fated mate but he rejects her for not being a virgin. Since she was rejected she is sent to the reject islands to live out her days.

This book needed more backstory and worldbuilding to make sense. I don’t know if one of the other books in the series would make a difference as they are all written by different authors. I did like Bellatrix. She was strong willed and gave no shits to what others thought about her. She was determined to live her life to the fullest. I liked the guys she ended up with, but the murder mystery just seemed weird and out there. I would be interested in trying again if there was some explanation as to why she had to go to the island but her fated didn’t. Like because he rejected her he isn’t going to go nuts but she might. Please explain the thought process. It needs some work.

Ruled by Magic by Zara J Black

1 Star

Lord Commander Leo Rahl gave Livet a choice, to take the 15 years in prison for exposing the magical elite or 6 months of being his toy. She opts for the 6 months figuring it won’t be that bad. He can do whatever he likes to her and there is nothing she can do. Will she regret her decision to take Leo’s deal?

So I borrowed this book twice cause I forgot I read it, that is how forgettable it is. I wanted to like it but it just came across as an abusive relationship vs a dark, BDSM esq book. I don’t usually have a problem with dark or Dub/Con but this one crossed a line. Some people might be ok with the content and there’s no judgment for my morals it crossed a line. There was a lot of public humiliation, and this would have been fine but she hated it. None of it was for her pleasure but all his. He wanted revenge on her and it twisted into love at some point but I never felt the connection. Overall, the writing style was good and I will probably give the author a second chance but this book wasn’t for me.

The Assassin’s Promise by Merri Bright

3.5 Star

Roya has been flunked out of the Assassins Guild. She’s angry with how everything has played out and that her mentor has screwed him over. When she finds out why Thorn failed her she has to trust him but who else can she trust. People from all over the world are tracking her to get her and keep her. Roya doesn’t want to do anything but learn more ways to poison someone and maybe how to use some of her mysterious powers. Will she be able to ignore the pull she has for Thorn, the prince, warrior-scholar, and a pirate?

I still enjoyed this one but it was a bit longer than it needed to be. There was a lot of build up that I didn’t feel enhanced the story. I love when authors put more info in the books but this felt like too much details than needed. It dragged the pacing of the book down to have it. I liked the guys in her harem and they all brought different things to the relationship with her and I loved that. I also liked that she was a major kick ass and strong woman. Overall, it was still a good book and it added to the series.

Knotty Girls Club by Ginna Moran

2 Star

Being an omega comes with certain rules. One of the main ones is you are owned by the alphas. If you don’t have an alpha, you don’t have any say. Kelsey had an alpha, but her uncle killed him so now she is taking care of herself by taking illegal suppressants. When it is discovered she is really an omega she is forced to go to another club and work but is kidnapped before she gets there. Now she’s at the palace and not sure what life is going to bring. 3 out of the 4 alphas, want her but does that mean she’s going to stay?

I wanted to like this as I have liked Moran’s books previously but this one just hit the wrong notes for me. I didn’t really like any of the characters. Kelsey was over the top with all of her emotions and it irritated me. I was also turned off by all the cutesy nicknames the guys gave her. There needed to be better character development with everyone. Kelsey’s character kept changing from a strong kickass to weak willed woman. Maybe that would make me not hate all of them. Overall, this is one I would skip and try one of her other books that was better.

The King’s Omega by Merri Bright

4 Star

King Rigol has a prophecy to fulfill and he needs to find an omega. They haven’t been seen since a plague took them out. He thinks he’s found one but he has to accept Vali, who is dirty and smells horrible plus she has a cat that hates him. When he discovers the woman he thought was an omega was lying at it’s actually Vali will he be able to win her over. Will she be able to resist the Rigol’s inner circle all of whom have shown her nothing but what she needs?

I loved Vali and all of her men bar King Rigol. I felt all of her men made amends to her to her but I never felt he actually did anything to deserve her. This might be because of how he was to her cat. No one messes with the kittens. Besides that issue I loved how this book was written. It may not be the first review of omegaverse you’ve read of mine, but it was one of the first books in that genre that I read. It was different and made me fall down the rabbit hole of omegaverse. Definitely worth checking out this author and this series. It has all the feels and makes you want beat up some people for being horrible to Vali and make sure she has whatever makes her happy.

Touch of the Mage by D.D. Chance

3.5 Star

Maddigan has worked so long to get into a top school to make her life better. While working as a janitor at an academy for magic it is discovered she has magic. One of the hottest mages on campus wants my help with his friends to compete in the trials. This shouldn’t be too difficult…right?

This book was an interesting take on magic, fated mates, and academy. This was a human who was working her butt off only to find out she has magic and mates. I really liked Maddigan and learning about all the things she’s lived through to get where she is. The guys she is going to end up with are jerks but you want to like them. I was digging all of this up until we get the trials. This is a woman who had no idea she was a mage until recently. She had barely had any classes under her belt before she was thrown into the trials. The trials have been known to kill mages who have years of experience but her and the guys can totally survive it with her weekish of training. Nothing about the trials is ever explained to her but she’s expected to just know. Everything up until this point was about how no one knows what the trial will be as it changes but as soon as they are called up the guys seem to know what needs to be done. On top of that there were some other inconsistencies. Anyone who is injured are disqualified except her and the guys who are injured but they’re still passed. Another one is they are told they are guaranteed a rest after the trials before the second round but they are almost immediately called up again and it's just swept under the rug. Overall, I enjoyed it even with these inconsistencies.

Aphrodite used her powers to help her men with the chaos in the school but now they need to fix it so they can get their happy ending. However, while they are trying to do that someone/something is turning all the students and faculty against her. Will they figure out what is going on before it is too late?

Again, it starts where the last book ended. I enjoyed the story and I liked how it wrapped up but there were some questions brought up but not addressed. Like Aphrodite’s parentage. It was stated at one point that there were weird things in her blood but then not really mentioned again. I feel like there should be at least a short story or something to address this. I also felt like the guys who were the biggest dick didn’t really have to do as much groveling as I felt he should. Overall, it was a good series and was well worth reading.

3 Stars

Cami’s parents have sold her for their debts. She is a halfling who doesn’t care that her parents sold her, and she is now a slave to hell and required to compete for favor to find mates. She will play along because she has too but she will find a way to burn it all down around Lucifer.

OMG don’t read if you are frustrated by cliffhanger endings…which I am. This was such a well written and interesting story and then it just ended. I was so frustrated. When I read this (way behind on book reviews and this was middle of 2022) this book wasn’t even up for preorder. As of writing the review it is coming out between now and April. The concept is interesting. The writing was good and I liked the characters but the ending was so abrupt and left me wanting.

3 Star

Faith is living her life in Chicago when she is pulled from her life into another world. In this new world she is expected to help the Battle God Aron combine is souls into one and take his place with the other gods. Will she be able to help him and get home to her life or will she be stuck in this new world?

I felt the book could have been shorter as it felt like it dragged on a bit. The book is 656 pages and it felt longer. I liked the overall story. Aron grows and changes throughout the story and it was interesting to see. Faith was also interesting, but it took me time to not being frustrated with her. I understand she is thrust into this world but come on. You can’t do what you would do in your old life.

4 Star

She may have gotten away from those who would use her and abuse her but now she is a social outcast and very limited use of her magic. She needs to find a way to protect herself with the limits. She is being denied the men she craves but there is a new transfer student that intrigues her and he’s sticking close. What will happen when secrets come out?

This one started right where the first book ended. It is interesting to see the mental loops people jumped through to blame her for things going on around her. I will say there are things in this one that were pretty obvious to figure out for me. I still enjoyed it and wanted more. I did get very frustrated with some of the guys and wanted them to get over themselves. Can’t wait for book 3.

4 Stars

Jessica just wanted a cup of tea to help get over her day instead she summoned a minotaur. The only way the minotaur will leave is if he brings her to release. The problems keep coming as him showing up triggers her family elf to come and save her. He makes sure the minotaur doesn’t hurt her but lets it play out to the pleasure of all of them. Every time Jessica makes tea she ends up with the minotaur. With family pressures will Jessica find her happy?

This is a short story and was awesome to read. It's a light and easy to read with lots of smexy scenes. Sometimes with short stories the pacing is off but with this book I didn’t feel that way. I got to end and said NOOOOO. I wanted more but that was because I liked the characters. The one big issue I have is I am left wondering about Jessica’s family. I want to know if the gods come down on them or not. Can't wait for another book by Honor St Jean.

When she gets there, she is thrown into this new world she has to quickly acclimate too but she’s not sure of the rules of this new world. Will she find her footing?

I really liked this book it was a different kind of bully academy book. You feel bad for Aphrodite throughout the book. She’s been taken advantage of her entire life and it’s not really different once she ends up at the academy. People continue to bully her and down right nasty. I blew through this book and wanted the next book immediately. If you like Academy and Bully this one will probably tick all the boxes for you. Can’t wait to read the next one.

4 Stars

Cilla has spent the last four years working through her trauma of being assaulted by an alpha. She has found her mates, but they don’t want to push her too fast but when they are called home will they find their happy ending before it is too late?

Loved seeing how Cilla found her forever with her guys and getting over her trauma. She tries everything to get their attention without actually telling them she wants them. Loved that it took passing a note from someone else that was sexual in nature to get her out of her shell. The MMCs all needed a good swift kick because they were ready to walk away from her to not push her due to the trauma. It was super spicy and short read. If you've liked all the other books you will like this one.

4 Stars

After the magical attack that nearly took Shay’s life they are trying to discover what and who was behind the attack. The guys are determined to keep her safe and get her trained to protect herself. She also wants all her men but can she be mated to more than just the dragon?

This book starts right where book 1 ended. It does end in a cliffhanger again but not a bad one perse. I loved the development the characters made in this book. I loved the arc with Rourke and Brandon. They do better in this one and it’s interesting to get their in thoughts as to why they were doing what they were doing. I can’t wait to see how this all plays out in book 3. Definitely worth picking up and reading.

The barbarian boy is now 24 and King of the Cyclopae. Mathior is told to kill the last remaining member of the royal family to calm the citizens of Yshrem instead he decides to follow his heart and marry her.

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. There is a lot of spice and the characters are easy to like but I wanted more world building. I really liked that she was older than Mathior. I liked they were so enthralled with each other. It was worth the read.

On the night of the full moon, I’m turned into a new shifter after an attack. I’m a new female alpha and expected to take five mates. She’s sent to the Bad Moon Academy

I loved the inner dialog between Raven and her wolf. The wolf just wanted to get her men and have lots of fun where Raven was just trying to figure things out. This book would have been a solid three, but it ended in a weird way, and it just didn’t make sense. You will need to read the rest of the books to get the whole story. All of these differences lead Olix to believe the agency was mistaken in matching them. Can they find some common ground and get their happily ever after?

This was fine. I liked the first one better than this one. There were aspects of the book that just frustrated me. If Susan and Olix had just talked about things there might not have been so much conflict. I get it that’s the point of the book but it was frustrating me.

Shameful by May Dawson

3 Star

Since third grade I’ve had a crush on the alpha’s son Lucas. He’s my fated mate but when I’m attacked by a supernatural being and reveal myself to humans he rejects me. I’m sent to an island for all rejects with some gorgeous but grumpy guards. While there I realized I don’t need redemption but revenge. Revenge on the supernatural who assaulted me but also Lucas and the rest of the pack who turned their back on me. Will I get my revenge and find a happily ever after?

I enjoyed this book for the most part but it seemed rushed at times and slow at other times. I also had issues with the lack of world building. We are just dropped into the story with no understanding of what the rules are. It was still enjoyable to read but hoped for some more to it.

Everyone knows that omegas want a pack who is going to keep them safe so they can have lots of babies. That’s not what Reagan wants. No, she doesn’t want it at all. When she screws up her chances at a pack, she ends up sold at Omega Auctions. The pack buys her to be their new maid which she is in no way able to be their maid. Her first heat is coming, and the guys are gorgeous. How will this work out?

This was an interesting take on omegaverse story. Reagan was very bratty and it was frustrating at times to listen to her bitch but I can also understand why she was frustrated. I liked the guys she ended up with and the big plot twist was interesting. It was a quick easy read so if you like omega books this will probably work for you.

Now he’s a single dad to a little girl. Working at The Park Inn gives us the chance to reconnect. I want to be all in but is Grayson?

This book has all the feelings. It gets you right in the heart and keeps going. Jessica has her reasons for leaving when she was eighteen and Grayson holds it against her. He screws up and walks away which is the drama in the book. This part frustrated me and I wanted to smack him upside the head several times but it all works out in the end and it was an enjoyable read.

Jacob Kincaid had his last mission go horribly wrong and he’s now home to recuperate. He wants to forget his last mission and go on with his life. Sophie has been through a breakup, and she’s left with nothing but her boat. She needs funds and to get over her seasickness. The more time they spend together the more they clash, will they find their happy ending?

Where I struggled with book 2, I enjoyed this one much more. I loved Sophie she got the short end of the stick and I wanted her to get her happy ending so badly. I also was looking forward to Jake getting his story and this one just made my day was so well written and you felt connected with both Sophie and Jake and were happy when they got there happily ever after. Well worth struggling through book 2 to get to this one because it was worth every single minute.

Anna and the Alien by Honey Phillips

2 Star

Anna just wanted a vacation from life not to be kidnapped by aliens and forced to help an injured alien. When the ship they are on crash lands on a strange planet she’s forced to work with and trust the injured alien in hopes of making it home to earth. Jakkar was on a mission to find a new planet for his people when he was taken and imprisoned. He’s forbidden from mating with someone outside his race but when he meets Anna he can’t walk away. Can the survivors find safety and happiness on this new planet?

I have never been so happy to read a series out of order than I was with this book. Hanna in the hitman was free which is why I read that first, loved it, and then I went back to read this one. I figured that if I liked Hanna, I would like this one and I did not. I struggled to finish it and if I’d started with this book, I’d never would have read Hanna and the Hitman.  I didn’t like Jakkar was up until the very end of the book I can’t be with Anna. Nothing is worth losing my people for but he won’t stay away from her. Every time he does this it hurts Anna. I like a good dark or bully romance, but this was just cruel. It literally took his best friend telling him she would be worth being outcast for him to get it through his thick skull. She of course felt it was perfectly fine to forgive him instantly. This makes me sad because it was an interesting take on space aliens. Since I liked the 8th one, I'm going to try to read the 2nd-7th ones to see if they get better as she writes more.
