FUBAR by Elise Faber

5 Star

Maggie’s life is in chaos right now. She’s pregnant and the dad has walked away. Her body revolts at anything being put in it so she’s losing wait when she should be gaining it. She’s supposed to be carefree and single instead she’s praying to the porcelain god. Nothing is going the way she expects including her lusting after Carter. She wants him but her life is too crazy to even consider going for what she wants. Can he convince her he’s the man who is going to stick and take care of her and her baby?

I loved these two. The fact that Carter keeps a toothbrush and toothpaste to help her with her morning sickness is adorable. I loved watching her figure out he was all in, and nothing is going to change that. I love the twists and turns the story takes. I also loved how their personalities balanced each other. She was outgoing and over the top while he was way more reserved and willing to be in the background to support. The story just worked. This is book 5 but you do not have to have read the other 4 to read this one and understand it. Will it help yes but you don’t have to.

Love You Wrong by Julia Kent

5 Star

Kellen has left his small town behind for working in DC on Environmental policy. His time in DC is coming to an end and he's pulled in different directions. His girlfriend isn't helping as she's pulling away when he gets some bad news from his friend Rachel he can't kill the messenger but it does start him spiraling When there is a catalyst he's forced to choose his path.

This was an amazing prequal. I loved the interactions between Kel and Rachel were amazing. I loved the hints of things to come with the series. Even though it is a short story and a prequel it's a complete story that just so happens to leave you wanting more. I can't wait for the next one.

A Gold Christmas by Elise Faber

3 Star

Stefan has officially retired from the Gold and is wanting the next stage of life to start. The problem his wife Brit is still a goalie for the Gold and can’t really get pregnant and continue to play for them. The alternative is adoption but there are risks with that option. Will they figure out what they both want and get it?

This wasn’t one of my favorites by Faber. This is book 13.5 and you do need to have at least some of the other books in the series to understand what is going on in this book. This book is just a snapshot of one of their Christmas. I liked the writing but felt it ended too soon and kinda not feeling like it wasn’t a complete story. It was nice to see how they got their kids. It fit in with the rest of the series and Faber’s writing was good just  needed to be a bit longer.

Hunt the Stars by Jessie Mihalik

5 Star

Octavia has worked for years to keep her friends safe. To bring in money her crew of bounty hunters need to accept a job from Torran Fletcher. He is their sworn enemy, but the credits will keep her crew afloat and allow them to fix their ship. As part of the agreement Tavi must allow Torran and his crew onto her ship. They push all her buttons, but the money is worth it. When they uncover a deeper plot then they were expecting that threatens war between the humans and Valoffs. Where will their loyalties lay when all is revealed?

I love this story. I fell into and couldn’t believe how fast I read it. Why is the next book not coming out until this summer? I must see where this story is going. I loved seeing Torran and Tavi navigate their relationship and their individual crews plus finding out they both kept secrets from each other. The book flows nicely and some of the twists and turns in the book even surprised me. Definitely a good start to a new series. One that I want to read again and then have the second one now.

Crow Bones by Anne Bishop

5 Stars

Vicki Devine made a critical error in telling the Others about trickster night and they want to partake in the festivities. What should have been a lighthearted night of tricks and treats turns deadly when someone shows up pretending to be Crowbones the Crowgard’s bogeyman. Chief Grimshaw Ilya Sanguinati and the rest of their friends will have to work together to find out who is responsible for stirring up the Others.

I loved this book. In the original story I liked all the characters, and they are all back with this one. Vicki is no longer struggling with money but still has some issues with men. This book also gave some insight into what’s been happening since wild Country. I loved finding out about certain characters. One of the best things I liked about this book was who the bad guys were. No spoilers as it’s a major plot point. Now I want to go and reread all of these books again.

Beauty by Lexi Blake (Sophie Oak)

3 Star

Bronwyn lost everything one fateful day. Her parents killed, her brothers banished, and her home stolen and her on the run. She was near death and has worked her way to stable but it’s all about to come crashing down. Rumors abound that her brothers are coming home to take their throne will they be able to get to her before their uncle finds her and kills her?

I loved the first two books and was looking forward to this one, but it didn’t live up to the hype. I liked Bronwyn, Lach, and Shim but didn’t feel they connected. I also really didn’t like Lach and Shim’s sister. She basically spent the entire book plotting to take the throne and used Bronwyn to get what she wanted. Years of their so-called friendship was just a plan to get what she wants, and it irritated me. It looked like there’s a set up for a future book but as of right now nothing. It would be nice to see more in this world.

Taryn was born a Layton shifter and her father hates this. He's decided to marry her off to strengthen his pack when She's taken by the phoenix pack. Trey asks her to mate him to help him with an issue with his former pack. He's the lesser of two evils. So she agrees. Will they be able to work together and resolve all of their problems?

I enjoyed this one. I liked Taryn more than Trey. He was to much in his own head to not be a major dick. Once somethings are revealed things between Trey and Taryn Smooth out. It did make the other series easier to understand. Good first book.

Ambrosia finally has her dream job when her worst enemy buys the company she works for. Chase thought she was just the girl that got away and doesn’t understand where her anger is coming from. Will they find a way to work together to keep the company running?

I didn’t like either Ambrosia or Chase. Ambrosia gets screwed over in high school and I understand why she hates Chase, but she doesn’t really explain anything to him. In high school Chase also never thought to check on his girl to make sure she was ok. I get that he had shit go down but he just kind of abandons her. He was also best friends with her brothers and that kind of was ignored. I finished the book but don’t plan on continuing the series.

Pasties and Poor Decisions by Molly Harper

3 Star

Years ago, Ana thought she left her small island life behind for bigger and better. That is until her husband is caught embezzling money and he ran off with a younger woman leaving her with nothing. She goes home to the island. Her house is in need of repairs the problem the only one who can do the repairs is her ex who could have been more Ned. Where will her new life take her?

I usually love Molly Harper’s books but this one was only ok. It’s a second chance at love short story. I wanted more backstory and world building. And holy shit Ana’s kids are horrible human beings. I really think Molly Harper has a good story here it just needs to be fleshed out and a bit longer. It felt unfinished and I want more.

The Worst Best Man by Lucy Score

3 Star

Frankie loves her friends and will do anything for them, even if it makes her struggle to make ends meet. She’s the maid of honor for her BFF and she will make sure everything goes off without a hitch even if the best man is a dick. Aiden made the worst first impression and keeps trying to make it up to Frankie. When the groom is kidnapped before the wedding, they will have to work together to find him and get him to the alter on time. After a night together Frankie disappears on him, and he’s determined to find her and win her over. Will he get what he wants?

Frankie irritated me throughout the book. She’s poor compared to her friends but won’t let them help her even though it is for their wedding and the costs are for the wedding. Aiden is a dick. Yes, you’re a billionaire who has been burned in the past so now everyone is out for his money. He quickly redeems himself, but Frankie doesn’t. She continues to keep him at a distance and then makes a huge deal over something she knows is false, but it gives her an out. She eventually makes up with Aiden but meh. Overall, I wouldn’t read it again.

Beast by Lexi Blake (Sophie Oak)

4 Star

Dante is tired of his life, and he wants a mate. He decides to follow his cousins’ idea and buy one at market. When he gets there, he finds Kaja. No one can tame her, and they are talking about putting her down since they can’t match her with anyone. He takes a liking to her and wins her trust. When he brings her home everyone is leery of the match and thinks Dante has taken her to clean up his image and he will get rid of her later. That may have been the plan but what happens if he falls for her?

We met Dante in the last book, and I really wanted him to find his happy. I loved Kaja for him. She kept him on his toes. She is strong and weird, and I loved them together. I liked the fact that he started out planning on saving her and then letting her go to never wanting to let her go. This book fit well with the first one and continued the overarching story nicely. There is one more to go and I can’t wait to see how the story concludes.

Riley Thorn and the Dead Guy Next Door by Lucy Score

3.5 Star

Humiliated and left broke by her divorce Riley is trying to ignore her hallucinations. Until she things she’s seen start coming true. When a hot PI, Nick, shows up on her step asking questions about her neighbor she gets drawn into an investigation. She has a vision of the neighbor dying she tries to prevent it but doesn’t. Now she is being accused of murdering him. With the help of Nick will she be able to clear her name?

This was an interesting cozy mystery. By the end I liked it but the beginning was confusing and I nearly stopped reading it. It seemed like she didn’t believe in her psychic abilities but then later in the book she talks about the family heritage of psychic powers. I liked Riley and Nick together. He had more faith in her abilities then she did. I also loved all the old people Riley lived with. The ending was a nice twist. Overall, the good outweighed the bad and I will check out book two.

Megan has been kidnapped from her home and put up for auction. Beck is desperate to find a mate for him and his brother Cian before it is too late. Megan will do. She wants nothing to do with them until Cian wins her over. Beck will need to find a way to connect with her. When an enemy they weren’t expecting steals, Megan away will she find her way home?

I enjoyed this harem story. Beck is a dick to Megan who has been ripped from her home. Megan and Cian work really well together and were so cute. I also loved that Megan made Beck work for forgiveness and not just all is forgiven. I also loved Beck and Cian would have been doomed without Megan. She kicks ass and saves the day and her men. I loved the world building in this book and the story flowed nicely. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Summer Affair by Marina Adair

3.5 Stars

The day Jillian caught her husband cheating was the day she gave up on men. She decides to focus only on her son. To help survive she rents out her inherited home to others. When she’s asked to rent to her BFF’s Brother-in-Law she agrees. She was not expecting it to be Clay Easton or for him to see her skinny dipping on his first night. He’s trying to recover from his NFL injury that might prevent him from ever playing again. He was not planning on falling for his new landlord. Will they find a way to get their HEA?

I liked this story a lot, but the ending was very abrupt. I really enjoyed the story and seeing Jillian and Clay come together. I wanted more information on Jillian’s ex as in the description it was talked about but other than that you know she's divorced, and her ex is a dick. This is book 3 but it can be read as a standalone well. Overall, I blew through the book & liked it until the end when it just kind of ends. I wanted more. I am looking to forward to the next one.

2 Stars

A succubus has taken refuge with one of the few remaining human encampments. She needs to stay away from hell as her former boss wants to use her and abuse her. Will Deyva be able to help the humans stay safe from hell?

There is no world building in this book. Hell is on earth but no exclamation about how or why

or why. I liked Deyva a lot and her men all are due a major comeuppance. Basically, this book is all about sex & not much else. If that’s what you’re looking for the writing was good, but it felt lacking in story.

Witch Unexpected by Debbie Cassidy

1 Star

The Tri-Pack has been around forever, bound to the most powerful coven in the world. The coven is meant to keep an evil at bay. At the next Blood moon Cora will be the next witch in charge of the covenant. But only if she can make it that far.

I enjoyed the Deadside Reapers so much and had high hopes for this series, but it fell flat. I found myself skimming this book to try and find something that interested me, and I couldn’t. I was bored throughout this book, and it disappointed me. The MAIN CHARACTER was created/met in the reaper books, and I loved her in that book, but I didn’t feel this story moved anywhere or built on what was created in the other series. I may come back and read this series. See if it gets better in book two but right now, I am just kind of meh with it.

Yeah, I am done with this series. Some of the dialogue was clunky and didn’t work. I didn’t care for the story or the interplay between the characters. It just all around didn’t work for me.

He is intrigued by her and wants to know who she is. When he figures out, she’s on the run from something he is determined to help her out. Now he just has to convince her he can keep her safe.

I was looking forward to this one and it just didn’t hit the mark for me. Savannah frustrated me and I wasn’t a huge fan of her. There were several times in the book she was too stupid to live, and Hunt deserved a better partner. You don’t need to have read the rest of the series to read this one. The writing was good I really just didn’t like Savannah. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Bad Best Friend by Elise Faber

4 Star

Cora us tired of her 6 big brothers protecting her from everything. No matter how many times she’s told them to back off they haven’t taken the hint. Now they want their best friend Rafe to move in with her to see what is wrong with her. She very much doesn’t want this as she wants him. They give her the choice of Rafe or one of her brothers. She chooses to have him move in. Rafe was fine with this but was surprised to find it hard to ignore the attraction. Will he get past his fears of losing his family and go for her so they can get their happily ever after?

I loved Cora and Rafe. They were a super cute couple, and both had issues they had to work through to find their happy ending. Rafe really only has Cora’s family as his family, and he doesn’t want to lose that by being with her. It takes him time to figure out he can have everything. I also liked that Cora also had to work through her own issues. Overall, this one fit really well with the rest of the series. You don’t need to have read the rest of the series to read this one it helps but not necessary. I can’t wait for the next one in the series.
