Plaidypus by R.J. Blain

3 Star

Nadine and her brother have a close encounter with a hotspot that transforms them. Nadine becomes a platypus shifter While her brother becomes a Vampire. She has to convince the CDC not to take them in and separate them. The one thing they can all agree on is their hometown is to small, too judgmental, and too quick to kill those who are different. Once a decision is made her path is set and it's not quite what she was expecting.

This is a generous 3 star as the first 60% of the book was good and I enjoyed it but then she does what she always does and gets bogged down with the details. It was an interesting story, and it brought more information to the overall series which was great. We finally get to have more information on vampires which was also awesome. The problem you get to a certain point and the story just stops and it sits in one spot and there are tons of conversations about what the plan is. When it comes to the big confrontation it doesn’t happen on the pages, they just freaking talk about it. WHAT! How do you lead your story to this big confrontation and then not even have it be active part of the story but as a hey this is what happened with them. GRRRRR. It was worth reading just to get somethings explained but if you haven’t invested in the story just skip.

Dark Planet Warriors by Anna Carven

4 Star

Abbey lives and works on mining station Fortuna Tau, that is really just a rust bucket. She's surprised when the Kordolian show up as they are huge and intimidating and need no help from anyone for the most part. When Tarak and his crew are sucked through a wormhole after a skirmish with an enemy, they end up stuck on a human mining station with weak humans. Their plan is to get back until they find their enemy at the station and have to help them take out the aliens. He runs into Abbey while searching for the Xargek and he's strangely drawn to her. When the Xargek nearly kill her, he will do anything to keep her safe. When it's time to walkaway from her will he be able too?

I so love a good space drama and this was one of the good ones, I enjoyed Abbey and Tarak. They are opposites. He's crabby and dark while she is more outgoing and bubblier. they work a balance each other out. It was a very good start to a new book/series.

Trash and Treasure by Alessa Thorn

4 Star

Charlotte wants to go and study with legendary Fae mages but needs her brother-in-Law to approve it for her. To get this approval she needs to track down Aneirin with Reeve who she has a history with and wants nothing to do with. He broke her heart and she holds a grudge. Reeve is happy to be working with her as he's missed her and wants to know what he did to sever their budding relationship. They are going to have to work together to find and take out Aneirin before he lets out the other two generals.

This one took a hot minute for me to get into it but once I was into the story, I loved it. It was just a slow start. I loved seeing them all working together and seeing characters from previous books. The conflict between Reeve and Charlotte was interesting and I liked what separated them previously. Looking forward to the next one.

Bad Rebound by Elise Faber

4 Stars

Jeremy is used to taking care of everyone around him until Teresa. Teresa is a family friend who has been dumped by her long-time boyfriend, but she doesn’t want his help. She wants a partner in life so no matter how much she wants Jeremy she’s not willing to settle for someone who tries to take care of her vs supporting her. Will Jeremy figure out how to let go and support her?

Content warning on this book. A secondary character is raped off the pages, but the main characters are involved and there might be scenes that are difficult for some.

I liked this one. Jeremy really takes to heart what women are telling him and grows and learns that he needs to let go. I liked seeing the relationship between them shift and change. I had some issues with Teresa. No problem with her putting Jeremy in his place when he earned it, but she came across as bitchy at times. The flow of the story was good. The rape was a bit jarring as it came out of left field for what the plot was doing but it does set up the next book. It was a good addition to the Billionaire series even though it is the “first” book in a series.

Tryst in the Dark by Grace McGinty

5 Star

In this world everyone is controlled. When omegas turn 21, they are auctioned off. All alphas and betas are entered into the Allotment to join the omega to become their mate. It doesn’t matter what the omega had planned for their life the government has decided this is what is happening and that’s it. Tryst O’Sullivan knew her life was over when she presented as an omega. She decided not to fight it and accept it but if her new mates think they are getting a docile mate they are mistaken.

I LOVED this book. I couldn’t put it down. It was an interesting take on omega. I loved that she was willing to accept the partner of her first mate so they wouldn’t be separated by the lottery. I liked most of the guys she ended up with. The biggest issue I had was it ended too soon. They escape the country to the neighboring country and the book just ends. It is listed as book 1 and there is supposed to be more, but they aren’t up for sale yet. Definitely worth reading.

Chained Fates by Yve Vale

4 Stars

Serafin Andora is the last of her kind. After being trafficked once she's on a secret planet helping others after their rescue. When the long-time caretaker dies and someone new takes over, she is concerned about what he is doing and rightly so as the planet is invaded, and she is taken hostage again. She is thrown in with four males. She’s not sure what they want from her, but the men are injured, and she can’t stand to see them hurting. Serafin figures she’s going to die anyways she plans on healing them even if it kills her. Will the warriors be able to get them all out?

I enjoyed this book a lot. Serafin started off unsure with who she was and the more the book continues the stronger she becomes. I enjoyed the guys as well. They each had their own personalities and brought something different to the relationship with Serafin. I loved that Serafin ends up saving everyone and not the guys coming to the rescue. I also am glutton for alien space romance and this one ticked all the boxes to make for an interesting and enjoyable read.

Jordyn is living on the goodwill of her brother after her ex left her for her best friend. She’s trying to take care of their two kids and start over after being a stay-at-home mom for years. She doesn’t know how she is going to do anything let alone repay her brother for everything he’s done for her. Her brother has asked all of his teammates to chip in and help move her in, but she doesn’t want to wait. When one of her sons’ boxes breaks it is just one too many things and she has a breakdown and Ben stumbles upon her. He is one of her brother’s teammates and is off limits even if she was ready for a relationship. Ben has never had it easy. His dad left when he was a child and his mom checked out. He had to take care of his sister and mom. When horrible things happen to his sister while he’s gone for college she turns to drugs. He’s made to feel guilty for doing anything. When he meets Jordyn, he wants her but doesn’t think he deserves her. Will they be able to work through their traumas and find their happy ending?

I loved these two. Jordyn and Ben have so much crap to work through. I love that they lean on each other to heal from their past trauma. I’ve seen in other books where the guy would withhold his trauma to deal with it on their own instead of leaning on the love interest. Ben didn’t do this, and I loved that he was willing to open up to Jordyn and lets her help him figure things out. It was nice to see a healthy relationship. When I got to the end of the book, I was surprised it was already over with. I wanted more. I would love to see a short story with them getting married or having a kid.

Brie isn't interested in a relationship with Felix after she accidentally threw a love potion on him. She thinks the only reason he's interested is because of the potion No matter how many times he claims she's his fated mate. When women keep going missing he refuses to leave her side to keep her safe. When she ends up kidnapped will be get to her in time?

I liked this one but wasn't as in love with Brie as I was with the last book. There was more frustration with her character. I loved Felix and wanted him to get his HEA with someone who loves him us he deserves Brie got there eventually. I liked how the book ended and the humor was still there. Overall, a good book and can't wait for the next one.

Wylde by Sawyer Bennett

3 Star

Wylde is one of the newest member of the Arizona Vengeance team. He thrives on the attention he gets from fans and Puck bunnies. When he stops into a bookstore because of the gorgeous redhead behind the counter he is surprised how not into him Clarke is. He is determined to woo her. When he finds out her story and why she's not interested in the spotlight will he be able to win her over?

I have been reading a lot of hockey books lately and this one just didn’t hit the mark as well as some of the other ones. I liked the writing and a lot of the secondary characters, but Clarke just missed for me. She was a downer about everything and didn't want to do anything that might put her in the spotlight. On the flipside Wylde was the opposite. He was super up and chipper all the time. They just felt too different to me. Will try other books by this author since I did like her style.

Hockey players are incredibly superstitious. Aiden has never been. He wears number 13 jersey because it's just a number. He's been in a slump for awhile that breaks after he got a glass of white wine thrown at him at a New Year's Eve party. He begs Saige to continue this routine to help the Florida Fury win. The more time they spend together, the more they want to be more for each other. What will happen when she becomes a liability?

She forgave him too quickly. That was my first thought when I finished the story. I love a good hockey story. This one hit all the marks of a good one. I liked Aiden and Saige. It was an interesting premise. Overall, it was a cute hockey book.

I loved this book so much. It was funny and I loved the interaction between Cin and everyone else including Fallon were well developed. The secondary characters were also fleshed out. The story moved quickly. There weren't any moments I felt Cin was too stupid to live and I loved her snark. Definitely check this book out.

2 Star

Briar Rose is trying to escape her abusive husband. She thought she had made a clean break but he found her. When a demon shows up and saves her for a deal she will agree to almost anything. All she has to do is marry a dragon from another planet and stay with him for 7 years. Will she survive this new planet and husband?

I wanted to like this book more than I did. I found myself putting it down more than I was reading it. The story had no build up. It went 0-100 within minutes. Briar was abused by her husband for years and she basically jumps into a new marriage immediately. There's no real story here I would skip it.

Queenie and the Krakens by Aleera Anaya Ceres

2.5 Star

Naomi Queen refuses to have anything to do with criminals. She was raised in that world and doesn't want to go back. When she witnesses a murder she is dragged back in. Now she needs protection from the Rogue Waves. Their rivals the Kraken Motorcycle club will help her but at what cost?

The rating is being generous. It was an interesting concept but the characters and world needed work. Not to mention the look just ended and it left me wanting. It needed an epilogue or another chapter to flesh out the conclusion of the story. The fact that I read this one and finished it and I HATE MC stories says there were good things with this story but when you take a strong FMC for 85% then in the last 15% you have her guys sexually torturing her to get her to agree to be their lady. It didn't get with who any of the characters had been up to this point. At the beginning of the book a similar scene happened and Queenie HATED it and was humiliated by it and the guys thought it was a good idea to try it again? She walks but comes back and apologizes. That's What ticked me off and knocked down the rating.

She begs the 3rd man to take her to prevent her from going to the brothel. Markov doesn’t want or need a wife.  He takes her anyways to prevent her from doing something she doesn't want to do. They find a way to work together and find love?

Emily was another strong FMC and I loved her for it. She rolls with the punches and tries to get ahead when the deck is stacked against her. She ends up with grumpy Makov who I also loved. He screws up major, but he does make up for it. I think these two are my favorite couple in this series.

Angie was interesting. I wanted to like her more than I did. She took the place of her twin since she was already married and pregnant. This was a book I wasn't sure I would like. It was free which usually gives me incentive to try, and I was pleasantly surprised to really enjoy the book. 2 Star

Lily thought she had her hands full with her fourth mate Drrak but now there’s a fifth man who needs her. Will her other mates accept him into the fold?

This was supposed to be the last book in the series, but it left me with many questions. There were characters introduced and then ignored. They added a fifth mate into the harem, and you don’t really get time to learn about him when the book ends. The final big battle was incredibly short. Again, this book the author uses her fake language to have conversations. I ended up skipping many pages as I didn’t want to try and figure out what was being said. There is a fourth book that came out later. I am skipping it as I really struggled with finishing this book.

Ramliel by A.M. Griffin

2.5 Star

When the Yatur came to earth they promised to bring medical and scientific advancement in exchange Earth had to send women. These women would be married off to men other planets that had low women birthrate. Mia was selected to go to a distant planet and marry someone she didn’t know. She had no choice in the matter. Her chosen mate was Ramliel Takeria. He knew she was going to be his mate from a small age, but he didn’t want her. When they are supposed to meet for the first time, he’s a no show. Will they find a way to be happy?

I struggled with this one. I really didn’t like Ramliel. He was a complete ass through most of the book until he saw what Mia looked like. Then he was all in with the marriage. He had a mistress the entire time they were married which is a huge no for me. The other big HELL no was the almost instantaneous forgiveness Mia gives to Ram after he left her for his mistress. I will say the mistress claimed to be pregnant with his child and he wanted to be in the child’s life, but he literally takes her word for it. This woman was going to be thrown out her very nice digs because Ram was done with her but yeah, she’s totally pregnant with your baby. Then he’s shocked Mia isn’t happy to except him back into her heart and home. Mia does end up forgiving him very quickly like days later all because he sent her diary entries saying he’s so sorry. Release Date: October 11th, 2022
New York Times bestselling author Dianne Duvall brings readers the next stand-alone novel in a thrilling new sci-fi romance series full of action and humor.

Simone has hunted and slain psychotic vampires night after night for hundreds of years and desperately needs a change. When the leader of the Immortal Guardians offers her an opportunity to guard ten mortal women who are venturing to another planet, she dives right in and finds traveling into space and meeting amazing alien races just as exciting as she'd hoped… until an enemy attacks. Simone saves everyone she can before she's thrust into an escape pod and the ship explodes. Alone, fearing some—if not all—of her friends have been killed, she vows to seek vengeance.

Despite his fierce reputation and propensity for violating the law, Janwar has formed a friendship with strait-laced Prince Taelon of Lasara. When the prince's ship is destroyed, Janwar joins the massive Aldebarian Alliance-wide search and rescue mission and soon locates the Gathendien ship that launched the attack. An odd thing happens, however, as he and his crew stealthily approach it. The lifeforms inside begin to perish, two or three at a time in quick succession. Much to his surprise, someone else has reached the ship first: one of the very Earth women he hoped to rescue.

Fascinatingly fierce, Simone bands together with Janwar and his crew to search for her missing friends and wreak havoc upon those who wish to harm them. She also widens eyes, drops jaws, and sparks laughter and mischief as she banishes the warriors' world-weariness and makes each day seem like a new adventure. The friendship that grows between Janwar and Simone swiftly deepens into love. But the enemy warriors they face are tenacious and boast more weapons in their arsenal than the alliance knows. Can Janwar, Simone, and such a small crew vanquish them?

Nikola Vereshkova has finally made it to the big leagues, and he can now help those he loves. The day of his friend’s wedding he meets a woman he’s interested, and he plays up his Russian accent to entice her. The problem comes in when he finds out it’s the brides’ best friend Sadie. Sadie is used to men doing anything to get sex and she’s used to taking care of herself. She is drawn to Nikola but doesn’t want to be interested in him as nothing good can come from it. Will she be able to stay away from him?

I liked aspects of this book. Sadie just came across as bitchy to me. Like she takes care of her friend’s kid all the time but god forbid the friend does anything to help her out. It got very old to see her be so bitchy to those close to her and refuse help all the time just because she didn’t want to rely on anyone but she is the first to volunteer to babysit Kate and Adella’s kids. I also didn’t feel the connection was there between Nikola and Sadie. It just was ok for me.

She laughed as they left the lounge and headed toward the area sporting the crew’s sleeping quarters.

Janwar’s heartbeat increased when Simone took his hand in hers and squeezed it.

“This has been such an amazing day,” she said, “that I admit I’m sad to see it end.”

He was, too. “You must be tired, though, after the big battle.”

She tilted her head first one way, then the other, considering it. “Maybe a little.”

Their steps slowed as they turned onto the corridor their respective rooms were on.

“Do you know what my favorite part was?” she asked.

“Of the day or the battle?”

“The day.”

“The battle,” he answered with a grin.

“Nope. Guess again.”

Hmm. “The stroll in the park?”

“Nope, but that was a close second. Guess again.”

He’d thought for sure it would be one of those two. “Visiting a bar full of aliens on an alien planet?”

“Nope. But damn, I had a big day today, didn’t I?”

He laughed as they halted outside her door. “Very big. What was your favorite part?”

She stepped closer, tilting her head back to smile up at him. “The good-luck kiss you gave me.”

Surprise swept through him, followed closely by desire as he recalled the feel and taste of her. “What?”

“I’m not used to being the aggressor,” she confessed softly. “There aren’t many female Immortal Guardians on Earth. And breaking up with someone you know you’ll run into over and over again for hundreds or thousands of years afterward can be awkward, so we females tend to be very careful not to do anything that would invite amorous attention.” She inched closer. “I haven’t… dated in a very long time, Janwar. I’m out of practice, behind the times, and honestly don’t know what the hell I’m doing.”

She was setting him on fire. That’s what she was doing.

His heart began to batter his ribs. “What do you know?”

Amber light flared to life in her alluring brown eyes. “That I want another kiss.”

Srul, yes. Dipping his head, he pressed his lips to hers. Not with the desperation he’d felt the first time he’d kissed her, but with the same wonder he’d seen on her face in the park.

Simone—the remarkable woman he already cherished as a friend and whose company he constantly craved—wanted him.

Him.

Her lips were soft and warm beneath his, the kiss they shared gentle and full of affection.

He drew back just enough to break the tantalizing contact and stared down at her.

“Magnificent,” she whispered.

He chuckled, amused by the description he’d applied to himself earlier to make her laugh.

“I am so drawn to you,” she said with a smile.

What those words did to him.

Tribe by Stacy Jones

2 Star

Now that the season has changed it’s time for Lily and her men to head to their tribal lands. They will have to navigate more people being around them and see if they will accept Lily into the clan.

The pace in this book was incredibly slow and it dragged the book down. The book also ended on a cliffhanger. Saving grace all books are out but still worst book model ever. I liked the introduction of the new guy, and he helps balance the other guys out. Several complaints. One Lily became very meek in this book. She refused to say anything to her mates about her shunning from the villagers and when she sees something big happen, she doesn’t say anything. It made me not like her all that much. Another issue is the author uses the made-up language for the tribe. That’s great but you have many conversations in this language in the book it makes the book unreadable. I am not going to go looking for a translation of conversations. Since it ended on a cliff I had to read the next one.

Edge by Brenda Rothert

Luke Hudson has been sent down to the minor league to work through his injury. There he meets team trainer Adella Price. Her job is to make sure all the players are in good shape for the ice. She is a single mom and has no time or energy for the bull from the players after her ex left her high and dry for his hockey career. Luke throws her for a loop as she swore, she would never be with another hockey player. He’s all in with her now he just has to talk her into it. Will he be successful?

I loved these two. They have a lot of chemistry and they very much work. He’s super sweet with her and her kid while also being respectful to not start any rumors. The biggest issue I had was with the other men in Adella’s life. Her dad was a massive asshole until she ends up being assaulted by her ex. The ex also was not someone who was a good guy. He literally was leaving her to struggle to raise their child by herself. Then he ends up assaulting her. This led to her dad finally pulling his head out of his butt by I feel it was too little too late. The best thing about the whole situation with her dad and ex was Luke was there to support her and he never took over. Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot and it had everything I loved about the first book I read by her.

Chosen by Stacy Jones

3 Star

Lily was running her grandmother’s farm when she’s accidentally kidnapped by aliens and dropped on a mystery planet. The planet is a deadly one that will take everything she has to survive. It becomes easier when she is found by Frrar, Tor, and Arruk. They want to keep her safe and take her as their mate. Will they be able to find a way to communicate and survive the deadly planet?

There were a couple issues with this book. One of the big ones for me was the fact that Lily was supposedly a farmer, but she had difficulty with understanding basic farming things like there being an underground water source. The author was also very inconsistent with the communication between all of them. Sometimes Lily or the guys would gesture, and the others would get it and then they would do the same thing again and they wouldn’t understand. The final issue was Lily had to be clean no matter what was going on and it led to problems when they were trying to get to safety. It was very frustrating. On the other hand, it was an interesting concept, and I did enjoy aspects of the book so a 3.

Two years ago, Kate and Ryke were brought together by tragedy. When Kate suffers another miscarriage, she spirals. Will Kate and Ryke be able to work through their grief and trauma again or will they be able to survive this most recent trauma?

I really really really didn’t like Kate in this book. She keeps things from her husband that should be shared. She is so wrapped up in her own head she can’t see a way out and she still doesn’t get the help she so desperately needs. She is a grief counselor and just kind of buries everything and handles the loss of her second pregnancy in the worst way possible. It is one of those rare times I felt the main male character should actually leave his partner. They end up working everything out but even with that I got to a point of not caring that they did.

Blue Love by Leona Page

2 Star

Heather knows she’s not good enough for Reid. She was raised by the town whore, and he was wealthy golden boy of the town. It was barely tolerated for her to be friends with Reid’s younger brother. She spends her time taking care of her little brother Will. She tries to do whatever she can to give him a good life even if it means walking away from him. When she finds out he was being abused she takes him and runs. Reid has tried to stay away from her for years thinking she had something going on with his brother until he finds that to be a lie. Then she runs. He will chase after her until he can have her. Will they find a way to have a happy ending?

Holy crap this book was all over the place. It had so many issues with the timeline and not being clear on when it was. It made it hard to follow the story. Not to mention it jumps ahead several times and it led to a major disconnect in feeling the relationship made sense. On the relationship Reid literally spends most of the time “dating” someone else which leads to Heather staying away thinking he was happy. It was incredibly frustrating. Definitely not worth the time it took to read.
