Tucker’s Crossing by Marina Adair

3 Star

Cody Tucker thought he was done with his hometown and his high school sweetheart Shelby Lynn, until his dad died. He shows up to claim is inheritance and finds out Shelby was living with his dad. He’s ready to kick her and the rest of the employees off the ranch until he finds out about Shelby’s kid who just so happens to be his. Now he’s got to figure out what he wants and where everything went wrong.

There are two big issues with this book. First which is a big one for me is a secret baby. Shelby thought Cody knew about their kid, but he didn’t. He’s trying to make the best of the whole situation and Shelby kept fighting with him over everything. You can’t be mad when you walked away. They finally work things our and are finding a way to their happy ending and her ex-husband/his ex-friend shows up to cause problems. Things happen with this that would be a huge spoiler. The book just kind of ends with no closure. The book felt unfinished. She’s since released book two so we will see what happens.

Leave No Scone Unturned by Denise Swanson

2.5/3 Star

Weird things are happening at Normalton University and Dani gets dragged into investigating as her business is being hurt by the weird. Will she be able to figure out what is the cause of all the problems?

This was the same as the last one. It was slow and all over the place. Plus, overly detailed on the cooking information. We see a little movement with Dani and Spenser’s relationship but not much. Overall, Meh.

Healing of the Wolf by Cherise Sinclair

3.5 Star

After being rescued from Scythe Margery was happy. That was until the village she was sent to kept her without resources. She was expected to heal all who needed without any compensation which left her reliant on them for everything. She meets a new friend who she asks for a ride somewhere else. When she gets out of town, she refuses to go back no matter what. Tynan is finally home and happy to be away from humans. He’s ready to find a mate and settle down with his littermate Donal. Tynan is very interested in Margery but Donal believing rumors about her banfasa habits wants her as far from them as possible. When Donal finally figures out the rumors aren’t true will they be able to win Margery over?

These are my new favorite group. Donal, I both loved and hated him. He’s an idiot throughout the book but he does make it up to Margery and Tynan. I loved seeing Margery come out of her shell and hold her own against everyone. Plus, she helps out Donal and Tynan work through their issues. We finally get to see a smackdown on the humans who have been after the supernaturals. When this one ended, I wanted another one.

Tart of Darkness by Denise Swanson

3 Star

Dani is tired of her dead-end career when she inherits property from someone she’s never met. She decides to open up a catering business and rent out some of her rooms to local college students. Life is looking up when one of her boarders’ friends winds up dead and Dani becomes a suspect. Not trusting the police, she decides to investigate the murder herself. Will she figure out who the killer is before it’s too late?

This book was okay. There were times it got bogged down with the cooking details. I also had some issues with Dani willingly going to the police station with the cop who is accusing her of the murder. He’s been harassing her and is borderline framing her for the murder. Why would you go with the cop doing this without a lawyer? The romance part was just meh. They kept going over the same stuff without resolving anything. Overall, it was an okay read.

Leap of the Lion by Cherise Sinclair

3 Star

Darcy has been captive most of her life by an organization called Scythe. She will do anything to rescue friends and family she had to leave behind. She is discovered by other shifters and is taken to safety where she is mentored by Owen and Gawain. Owen wants nothing to do with her after being abused all his life, but his Cosantir asked him, and he will do. Darcy soon wins them over, but she can’t let go those she left behind. They all need to work together to find where Scythe has them hidden away.4

This grouping frustrated me the most. A lot of their problems they brought on themselves. I get why Gawain and Owen did some of the things they did, but it got old fast that they didn’t communicate with Darcy more. Darcy needed to save her people and they didn’t want her in danger. There were some issues with the timeline in this book. Vicki is kidnapped and by the time she was rescued she had her kids. But it didn’t seem to be that long in the book. Overall, the book fit with the rest of the series and added to the overall series.

Revenge of the Gods by Leia Stone

3 Star

Cronus sacrificed himself to save Maisey. Now Maisey will do anything she can to bring him back even go charging off unto the underworld. Thanatos is willing to let her find him and bring him back, but she needs to do one thing first. Will she be able to save Cronus and complete the task before Zeus makes his move?

This one starts with Maisey in hell trying to rescue Cronus. I loved that she was the rescuer in this book. About 2/3rds of the way through the book the plot got a bit wonky and was hard to follow. The ending was good, and I would read more books by Leia Stone.

Eventide of the Bear by Cherise Sinclair

3.5 Star

Emma has always looked for someone to love her. When her old home banished her, she spent years as a bear in the woods until a hellhound attacked humans and she stepped in to save the kids. When the coshair and his warriors catch her breaking shifter law they heal her and welcome her in. Ben offers up his home for her to heal in since he’s all alone since his brother Ryder abandoned him for a woman. Ben is tempted by Emma, but a wrench is thrown into his plans when Ryder shows up with a little girl. Ryder once gave up everything for a woman who was all an allusion, and he wasn’t going to fall for it a second time. Until one night and one act that proves not all woman are the same. Will they be able to find their happy ending?

All the feels with this one. I think Emma, Ben, and Ryder are my favorite group so far. They each have their own role in the relationship. I loved how Emma and Ben were willing to give up everything to protect Ryder’s child. The best part of the book was the end when the coshair makes the decision on who gets Ryder’s child. Loved this book.

Wrath of the Gods by Leia Stone

3 Star

Maisey was devastated when Cronus abandoned her. She had no idea what was going on with his mission and the Greek Gods. When there is a miscalculation, she is brought back into the fold of the Titans battle. The Titans find out how vital Maisey is to defeat the Greek Gods.

This book starts where the last ends which was good with how the last ended. Cronus gets his ass handed to him for being a jackass. He deserves everything she gives him for his attitude. Maisey is less annoying and more take charge in this book. Authors really need to stop with the cliffhanger endings. No one likes them and it makes me want to not pick up future books.

Girls Before Earls by Anna Bennett

3 Star

Miss Hazel Lively had a difficult childhood. Now that she’s an adult she’s trying to start a school for young girls. She must do everything in her power to maintain her a good reputation. When Earl of Bladenton Gabriel Beckett shows up to drop off his niece she has some rules he will have to adhere to. Gabriel is not sure what to do with his new responsibility for his niece and figures a school is the perfect place to keep her in line. What he wasn’t planning on was falling for the school mistress. Will they find a way to make it work?

I liked the set up and premise of the story. I just didn’t buy the relationship between Hazel and Gabriel. Not just that but through most of the book Gabriel is involved with someone else and he still sleeps with Hazel. It was just icky. Not one of Bennett’s better books.

Winter of the Wolf by Cherise Sinclair

3 Star

Breanne Gallagher had spent her years in foster care. She’s now stable living with one of her foster sisters when the worst thing happens. A hellish creature breaks into their apartment assaulting her and killing her sister. To help heal from her wounds she leaves her beloved home and travels to a tiny wilderness town that is the only clue to where she came from. She rents a cabin from Zeb and Shay who are managing the campground until they can hunt down all the hellhounds. Bree is trying to heal and learn how to take care of herself when she saves a little girl from a hellhound and changes her world forever. How will she handle this new world?

This one was a good one to read but there were some very hard parts to the story. Just like with the first one the sups don’t take into account Bree was raised humans and was a rape survivor. When the first full moon hits they try and treat her like everyone else. I did enjoy all three of the mates. They were all damaged in some way and were healed by being together. I really loved how the book ended and can’t wait for the next one.

Finding Kenna by Susan Stoker

3.5 Star

Since their first meeting Marshall “Aleck” has wanted to learn everything about waitress Kenna. Kenna is mortified over jumping on the back of a SEALs back thinking he was in danger and wants to make it up to him. When he shows up at her restaurant to ask her out, she’s not sure about dating a SEAL but she is willing to give it a shot. When there is a dangerous situation pops up will they both make it out alive?

I was not a huge fan of Kenna. She was very judgmental person and doesn’t really change. She was a waitress and hated anyone with money and it got old fast. I wanted to like Kenna and Marshall as a couple as they had a really “meet cute” story but I just didn’t. This is the third book in the Hawaii series, and I’ve not really liked any of them. The women have all kind of sucked. I don’t even think I finished book two as I figured out how it would go. I still love Susan Stoker’s books just not so much this series.

Scorching the Earth by Elise Faber

3.5 Stars

Hannah can't do love. She needs to focus on finding the traitor not how much she wants Lily. When She finally realties love isn't a bad thing will it be too late?

So happy to see the conclusion of the series. You do need to read the previous books to read this one and understand what was going on. My one big criticism was this was a f/f story, and they only really did heavy petting. With all the other books the sex scenes were vastly different. It could be Elise Faber wasn't sure how to write one well and so she skipped but it was a disappointment.

Her Twisted Sinners by Ginna Moran

2 Star

With all seven angels now demons running hell now Raven just has to figure out how to run purgatory and find her soul before it’s too late.

Thank the gods this book is done. This one was so incredible slow, and I found myself skipping parts to get through the book. They all resolve everything and Raven gets her men but blah what a waste of my time.

The Purveli by Dianne Duvall

3 Star

Ava always knew she was different. Working with the immortal guardians. She's given, an option to go with the Lasaran. When the ship is attacked, she ends up in the hands of the enemy. They experiment on her to try and discover her secrets. She finds an unexpected ally in Jak'ni. They support each other through experiments until they are able to escape. Will they be able to hold out until their allies find them?

The story dragged at points plus we got most of it in Eliana's book (2). It just felt like a rehash of that with a couple of added details. I did enjoy learning more about the new alien race and seeing Ava and Jak'ri get there happy ending but the book itself was just ok.

Releasing the Gods by Leia Stone

3 Star

Maisey Parker is celebrating her 21st birthday on the beach with her friends when she is double dared to climb a cliff. She accidentally offers a blood sacrifice on her climb and releases Cronus from his jail cell. He has a grudge against the Greek Gods and since Maisey is not allowed far from him she is dragged along with his revenge hunt. Cronus needs to resurrect the other Titans to help him take out the Greek Gods.

This was an interesting take on the Titans/Greek Gods. Maisey frustrated me throughout most of this book. She is very shallow through about half of this book. I enjoyed the journey Maisey and Cronus take and once Maisey stopped whining the book got better. The book ends on a sort of cliff hanger esq ending where Cronus abandons Maisey and she ends up back at home. Luckily the series was out otherwise I would have been so mad.

Emperor by Anna Hackett

4 Star

Poppy is on a test flight that ended up across the galaxy unable to go home and transformed into something else. Emperor Brodin took her in to help her with her shift but is distracted by an enemy sent to get him in line with his father. Will they be able to stop the attacks and keep the citizens of Damar

Safe?

I enjoyed Poppy and Brodin finding their way to a HEA. There were a couple of twists I didn't see coming. I am curious to see what the next book brings and what happens with Brodin's father. I am also interested to see who ends up with the last brother. Can't wait.

Her Sinful Saints by Ginna Moran

3 Star

Elias is missing and the angelic army is beating at their doors. Will Raven find her soulmate and make another angel fall?

If there wasn’t this and one more, I would quit the series. Curses on my need to finish series. This is literally the same book as the last one just new fight scenes. Raven frustrated me with her whining throughout the book. The only big thing in the book was about Raven’s pregnancy and her soul. Meh one more and I can be done.

4 Star

After a bad break-up sent Charlie home to San Francisco he's not looking for love. But he finds it with

Kacee, Gold's newest mascot. Everything is going great until his ex-shows up and his putting the pressure on to get back together. Charlie's not interested but will his ex-boyfriend ruin what they have?

I really liked Charlie and Kacee. They were a super cute couple working through their own issues. I wanted them both to get their HEA. I also liked that this book shown a light on male domestic abuse. It was handled well, and it showed the shame he had for the abuse plus his difficulty in reporting it. Really good addition to the series.
