07 Immortal Rider – Larissa Ione – 3*

Limos is the Horsewoman of the Apocalypse.  She is engaged to Satan and is not supposed to be involved with other men.  She kisses Arik Wagner, a soldier in the U.S. Army’s paranormal unit.  This triggers Satan’s wrath and forces Limos to team up with her evil brother Pestilence to save Arik.
I wanted to like this story but Limos was a WHINER and a liar.  She lied about huge things not just little minor points but huge plot points through the entire book and it’s all swept under the rug.  Arik hates liars but is cool with what she did even though he was harmed by her lies.  She whined about everything.  She didn’t want Satan.  Lets whine about it.  She had to help Pestilence to save Arik…oh wo is me.  Grr … No thank you

Ares is one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse.  If the Four Horsemen’s seal breaks they go evil.  In the last book when Sin spread the ward disease she broke Pestilence’s seal.  In this book he is trying to break Ares’ seal.  Cara is his love interest.  She starts the book as a human with a little ability to heal animals.  She is called out to help a dog hit by a car.  The dog is a Hellhound puppy who is so appreciative he gives her Hell’s Kiss.  This ties their life together and thrusts her into the supernatural world.  They meet when she is given Ares’ seal.  He takes her home to protect her from his brother.  She shouldn’t be able to hold the seal but because of the kiss she can.

I enjoyed this book but it was a little choppy.  It is technically the first in a new series but it really is just a continuation of Ione’s Demonica series.  It felt like Ione was sort of starting over but she had all the world there from the other series.  Once it picked up it was a very good book and I wanted the next book.

Master assassin Sinead Donnelly is the only female Seminus demon.  She is Lore’s twin and half-sister to Eidolon, Shade, and Wraith.  Like he brother Lore her gifts are very special.  She accidently creates a new disease that kills werewolves.  Sin has to accept the help of her brothers and Conall Dearghul who is half-werewolf, half-vampire to figure out how to stop the disease.

Ione continues to build her demonica world with this book.  I liked the relationship between Sin and Conall.  I also liked how Sin has to build a relationship with her half-brothers.  I wasn’t sure if I would like this book since I didn’t like Sin in Ecstasy Unveiled but the more revealed about her the more I liked her and the book.

Andrea Cole and Kaden Quinn are demon slayers.  They love each other but don’t say anything because of the nature of their lives.  Kaden ends up being taken and turned into a vampire who the bad guys plan on releasing kill his former friends.
This story originally appeared in The Mammoth Book of Vampire Romance 2.  The story is very short but still good.  You don’t get a lot of character development because it is only 44 pages.  What was there was an interesting plot.

Lore is the half-brother to Eidolon, Shade, and Wraith.  They share a father.  While the other three brothers has demons for parents Lore’s mother was a human.  This caused some interesting things to manifest with his gifts.  He can kill anyone with a single touch of his right hand.  He is currently slave bonded to a demon master named Deth.  To no longer be in his debt all he had to do was kill his half-brothers.  Since he didn’t kill them he is punished.  With his failure to kill his brothers he is sent to kill someone else.  Idess is a Memitim waiting to ascend to heaven.  She is a guarding until she ascends.  One of those she protects is who Lore is supposed to kill.
I loved these two.  They started as enemies, sort of.  Lore is a character who has nothing but bad thrown at him and is trying to make the best of it and you just want him to succeed.  There is more world building in this book to continue what was in the other three books.  More characters are introduced that I want to get to know more of.

Wraith is the third brother.  He has been poisoned and dying.  The hospital is crumbling and the staff is abandoning it.  Eidolon and Shade try to find an antidote for Wraith and their only option is the charm Serena has.  This charm allows her to live forever with good health as long as she remains a virgin.  Serena is an archeologist and goes to great lengths on her digs.  Taking chances which could cause her death.
I loved how this story came together.  Wraith is very selfish in the other books and in this one he has to decide who is more important Serena or himself.  Wraith sets out to seduce her and take the charm but the more he gets to know her the harder it is for him to be selfish.  I loved the give and take in this story.

Shade wakes up chained next to his ex-girlfriend Runa.  She wants nothing to do with him after he left her.  They were kidnapped by boogeymen who were killing people for organs in the last book.  These boogeymen have a grudge against Shade and his brothers and want to trigger Shade’s curse to ruin him.

I liked this book but not as much as other books in the series.  I didn’t really like the two main characters.  It never seemed like there was much chemistry between the two of them even though that seemed to be a major part of the plot.  I liked it.

01 Pleasure Unbound – Larissa Ione – 4*

I started this series with one of the short stories and fell in love with this author's writing.  Some of her books are amazing and some I can live without.  This was one I liked a lot and was glad I tried it.

Tayla Mancuso is a demon-slayer who ends up in a hospital run by demons.  Head doctor Eidolon can’t resist Tayla.  They burn for each other but Eidolon needs a mate before he transforms into a beast.  However, he fears she is the one who is killing other demons.  She was taught things are black and white.  Demons are evil and need to be killed.

I liked the chemistry between Tayla and Eidolon as well as the plot.  This is the first book in a new series and it kept me enthralled and made me want to pick up the other books.  It was interesting to watch Tayla struggle to come to grips with the world being grey verses black and white.  She has to find the middle ground and realize that like humans not all demons are evil.

The Body Reader – Anne Frasier – 4.5*

Detective Jude Fontaine was held for three years.  She was kept in an underground cell where she was raped, beaten, and tortured almost daily.  She escapes and runs home not realizing how much time has passed.  Her boyfriend has moved on and everyone she knew thought she was dead.  After a number of months she is able to get back on the force in her former position but with a new partner, Detective Uriah Ashby.  They are trying to track down a new killer who is murdering young women.

I loved this book.  It was well written and even though I figured out who the main bad guys were there were still a number of twists I didn’t see coming.  It was an amazing story to read to find how she comes back from three years of hell to mostly functioning adult.  I kind of want more books with these characters.

Descended From Dragons – Tricia Owens – 2* ARC

Anne Moody runs a cursed pawn shop in Las Vegas.  She is a dragon sorceress with a lot of magical power that has been feared throughout history.  One day a woman comes into her shop to pawn a stone statue.  The statue is a gargoyle named Vale.  The gargoyle is possessed by a demon and needs Anne’s help getting it out.
I wanted to like this book.  The plot description was very interesting and it could have been a really good book.  I think the biggest reason it was so bad was because some authors should never write a short book.  They need more words to build the story and that is fine but when they don’t take the time they make leaps where there shouldn’t be leaps.  That is what happened here for me.  We go from the gargoyle trying to kill Anne to him transforming into a man and bam it’s love.  It just didn’t work for me.  The chemistry between the characters wasn’t developed enough to be believable.  It could get better with future books but I am not interested in reading any more books
