Torin Mardak is looking for who is selling Callidum weapons so they can discover who is a traitor. He hates being on the planet surrounded by cheats and thieves. When he discovers humans there, when they shouldn’t be there, his priorities might have changed. The woman with them is his type and he will do anything to keep her safe.

Where I loved the original series, I struggled with this one. I kept putting the book down and doing other things while I was reading it. It was just really slow and repeated a lot of info from the original series. This might have been a problem because of binge reading the series. The writing was still good and on par with the other books I’ve read so going to give it a break and come back to read the rest of the series.

Best New Authors of 2022

In no particular order here are just some of the new authors this year who made me crave more stories by them and to blow through their back catalog. They left me wanting more and no two are alike. There are some dark romances, academy, omegaverse, and just a mix of books here. I truly do fall for books for different reasons. 

1. Kathryn Moon – I blew through everything she wrote and want more.

2. Yve Vale – She writes different kinds of stories that include space aliens and academy. This variety just worked for me this year and I read everything she had out and wanted more.

3. Lola Rocks – This is one of my all time favorites this year and I think made every list but the worst. The books just hit my feels just right and it makes me want to go back and reread/relisten to them.

4. Leona Page – Very dark books and hit the right notes with me

5. Merri Bright – This is another author where I found her back catalog and blew through everything that was available

6. Kate Messick – Reviews coming in 2023 Let’s just say her books are amazing and her character development is spot on. 

7. Brenda Rothert – So many good hockey books/players

8. Kimberly Lemming – So much humor and weirdness

9. Anna Carven – So many good space aliens

10. Flora Quincy – Reviews coming in 2023 the books were good mix of Alphaholes and some really strong FMC

Brilliant Starlight by Anna Carven

Abbey and Tarak are back. The queen is dead but the empire still stands The only way to keep Abbey and their daughter safe is to take everyone out who will harm them.

This felt like a serial. Going over the same details irritated me, I liked the conclusion overall. I just wanted a little more editing and new story.

Electric Heart by Anna Carven

Riana's is on probation for cyber crimes. She's supposed to be finishing it when she's told it's being extended due to her connection to Abbey. They want information on the aliens and will use her to get what they want. The only way to keep her safe is to rely on Kail. Will they figure out What they want Riana for before it is too late?

This one didn't work as well for me as the other books did. It felt like a pacing issue. It was a lot of action and then nothing, rinse and repeat. The characters also did a 180 on this personality without a good reason. still good but not my favorite.

Infinity’s Embrace by Anna Carven

Kordolians rescued Noa from the strange research facility when they rescued Abbey. She doesn't know what to think or do with them. She has their thoughts in her head and all she wants is quiet. She meets one alien who has similar gift as she has may be able to help her. The problem is Ashrael has been brainwashed and ordered to take out Tarak and Abbey. Tarak is trying to save him and when he sees how he reacts to Noa he's willing to give both a chance. Will they find away to survive?

We finally get a conclusion with the queen. It was awesome. I loved Noa and Ashrael relationship. They balance each other out and help each other with their trauma.

Forged in Shadow by Anna Carven

Arin is stuck on an overloaded Freighter waiting on Earth to let them land and trying to keep the peace between the humans and Kordolians. When some of her men attack Rykal, he takes care of them before she can and it leads to even more tension. When the ship is attacked and they need to vacate immediately will the humans and Kordolians work together to save everyone?

This one was a little different from the other ones. There was still the romance between Arin and Rykal but it was more political issues and drama between human and alien.

Into the Light by Anna Carven

Tarak and Abbey are back. He's still trying to put fires out but with Abbey pregnant he wants to be home with her and take care of them. Problems come to their door. Will Tarak be able to keep her and the baby safe?

I liked revisiting Tarak and Abbey. This made their story be more rounded and I loved seeing an established relationship as it allowed the author to jump right in. This is listed as book 4 but is better read as3 as it gives away somethings for that book as couple for book 4 are already together in this one. If you've liked the other two books you will like this one.

Out of Darkness by Anna Carven

Back on Fortuna Tau, Jia is first- rank mechanic trying to repair Kordolians battle cruiser with no success. When she goes to find something that will help, she's aided by second in command Kalan. He's dark and broody which perplexes her as to why he's willing to help her. When she's attacked by the Xargek still on the spaces station When she's attacked by the Xargek still on the spaces station he rescues her but when they continue to find more and need to evac everyone will they be able to get everyone to safety?

I loved these two. They were classic opposites attract. Jia is super smart and even though she's not as strong as Tarak she saves herself and him. When you think everyone is safe ish nope.You get drawn into more chaos and it worked for me.

Dark Planet Falling by Anna Carven

Prince Kalikian Kazharan  is trying to find away to convince all of Earth that the Kordolians don't mean any harm to them and just want a home away from the queen. He accepts an opportunity to be interviewed by reporter Sera Aquinas hoping that interview will clear up some misconceptions. Even though Sera thinks he's one fine looking man her experience is people lie all the time. Will she discover all his truths without falling for him?

I enjoyed learning about the prince's background and why he wanted his mom dead. Sera was a nice strong woman and they worked well together. The one downside was Kordolians seem to have the same personality and since I just read book 1 it was very obvious. I liked it enough to keep reading the series.

Abbey lives and works on mining station Fortuna Tau, that is really just a rust bucket. She's surprised when the Kordolian show up as they are huge and intimidating and need no help from anyone for the most part. When Tarak and his crew are sucked through a wormhole after a skirmish with an enemy, they end up stuck on a human mining station with weak humans. Their plan is to get back until they find their enemy at the station and have to help them take out the aliens. He runs into Abbey while searching for the Xargek and he's strangely drawn to her. When the Xargek nearly kill her, he will do anything to keep her safe. When it's time to walkaway from her will he be able too?

I so love a good space drama and this was one of the good ones, I enjoyed Abbey and Tarak. They are opposites. He's crabby and dark while she is more outgoing and bubblier. they work a balance each other out. It was a very good start to a new book/series.
