When Erin it her teen years she came into her magic. It was so powerful her parents sold her to
the Illuminati to be trained. She worked
for them until she found out they were the bad guys. After she destroyed her home city, she took
off for something better. What she found
was Rosie O’Grady’s bar. She gets a bartending
job there and tries to start over until murders start happening all around her.
There was more telling me the story then showing me the
story. The first chapter felt like a summary
of details that you will need. It didn’t
work for me at all as it felt like she was listing off all this information we
would need. The other big issue was
character related. Erin was supposed to
be this master assassin who can get in and get the job done. However, when she leaves this life behind it
seems she became a naïve woman who had never had pizza. I can get that she had never had friends and
that stuff would be confusing but not all of the things told to me she had
never experienced. Another problem is
she complains a lot about all these people coming to her for help, but she
literally is touting facts the police and lawyers need so why wouldn’t they
come to you. There was also no world
building at all. Normally first books
suffer from information overload on the world building, but this book didn’t do
enough. Is it supposed to an alternate Earth
or our Earth just with magic. I will not
be reading the next book in the series.
