Books to the ceiling, Books to the sky, My pile of books is a mile high. How I love them! How I need them! I'll have a long beard by the time I read them.
- Arnold Lobel
Zara has been tested and told she’s not an omega, so her
plan is to take over the bakery. When she is tested one more time it is found
that they screwed up and she is an omega. Now she must be sent off to the
academy to be trained on being a proper omega. She must select her alphas who
are there to protect her but that’s not how she was raised, and she’s not
interested in selecting just anyone for herself. On the journey to the academy
things go sideways and she discovers there is something going on that is
risking omegas. Will she and her chosen mates discover what is going on before
it is too late?
This is bordering on a 2 for issue in the book. There are
grammatical and spelling errors throughout. There was also a lock of world
development which led to confusion on how and why things are the way they are.
There was also a pacing issue. We had a lot of hurry up and wait. I liked the
story as it was different. Zara was a strong main who went after what she
wanted. The next one doesn’t come out for a while which sucks since it ended in
a cliff hanger.
Alice's family is desperate for help as her brother gambled
away the family money. She heads into Briar Forest hoping the Fae Lord will buy
some paintings from her and that will save her family. When her carriage is swarmed
by bandits she's saved by a masked man. He tries to talk her out of going to
the castle, but she ignores him. Lord Ambrose isn't who she expected and the
more he pushes her away the more she wants to stay. She's drawn to him and her
masked man. Who will she pick?
I enjoyed this one for the most part. It had some very
obvious parts like the masked man. I liked the take on Beauty and the beast,
but it doesn't feel like a complete story. Writing was good but need more out
of the story.
The Ancients have been released and the Joanna and her coven
need to contain them, so they don’t take over the world. It will take time and
energy to protect them all and keep everyone safe. Will they discover the way
to contain the ancients in time?
I am still very confused by the end of this book. The story
wasn’t wrapped up nicely leaving me questions and I have no idea if she will
write another book in the series. Overall, I enjoyed the series just feel
unfulfilled.
Former prosecutor Cam Calloway is at the sex club to impress
his boss. He wins the bid for the lovely league. If he can't satisfy her his
rivals get to step in.
There are too many competing storylines in this short book
You get Cam/Teague, God Eros et.al, and the secondary characters. This led to
another story The book just didn't gel for me.
Stryker was part of an elite group of monster shifters who
has seen the worst of the worst. When he gets a distress call, he sets off to
see what is the problem. What he finds is Norah Lee. She’s a scientist who was
investigating a planet and all of her crew has been killed with just her
remaining. Now they will have to survive the planet.
I wanted to like this but just can’t. I never felt a
connection between Norah and Striker. I also felt there were so many things
left unanswered by what happened on the planet Norah was on. This one ruined it
for me, and I’m not interested in continuing it.
The coven is back from Vermenia but it has opened up a new
problem of people running away from their government trying to hide. The
university is not happy with the changes that are happening, and they may be
right about not accepting them. With all that Joanna doesn’t care what they
want as long as those she loves are safe and happy. When things boil over will
she be able to keep everyone safe and happy?
This picked up where the last book ended and has more
personal issues between the coven which was nice to see as there are growing
pains. Sometimes I was confused about what was going on and things weren’t
clear. Still good but very much a cliff hanger ending.
Dommik is a monster, and he doesn’t want or need anyone. He’s
part of an elite team that has dealt with the worst of the worst in the galaxy.
When his employer demands he bring on an assistant he drags his feet finding
someone. Katalina has faced death and now she wants to live. When she ends up
on the spaceport looking for an adventure, she finds Dommik. He doesn’t want
her but she’s not taking no. Will she be able to change his mind about having
her around?
This was an interesting book. I enjoyed the world building
in this book. It’s also a new take on shifters. Dommik isn’t the standard hot
shifter. He’s a cyborg shifter and he changes into a spider which I’ve never
seen before. I liked the struggle both Kat and Dommik were having. Dommik
didn’t want to be with Kat and then he does and then not get old. Overall, I’m
willing to check out the next one.
Mouse has no memory of who she is or where she’s from. All
she remembers is harsh voices and slaps. When she comes across Cravus who is
nothing but nice to her she’s not sure how to react and doesn’t trust him. Cravus
is hired to keep her safe and when things go sideways will he be able to keep
her safe?
I would have liked to see Bloom remember her history by the
end. It wasn’t a big deal she didn’t, but it would have been nice. It was nice
seeing Bloom rescue herself and Cravus several times. The writing style Maven
uses keeps me coming back and I can’t wait to read the next two books.
Erin is supposed to be working on putting together her
friend's wedding It's so boring she just wants to escape when she finds the
dungeon. Owned by Ex-marines Jackson and Caleb, they see her and want her but
are they ready for her?
I Love a good BDSM book. This was not a good BDSM book. The
first sex scene the coerce her into doing things she wasn't comfortable with.
This goes against BDSM beliefs I also didn't like the insta-relationship. There
was no connection with them because of no character development. There arebetter books out there to read so skip this
one.
Nix knew her family didn’t want her, but she never thought
they would try and sacrifice her to the gods, but they did. When it didn’t work,
and she survived she ends up on the run from her pack. She ends up with the
broken alphas. Most of them want to mate her and claim her as theirs except
one. When he rejects her all of her new powers can’t protect her from the pain
of the loss of the connection. Will she survive the rejection and her family?
I wanted to give this a higher rating. It should have been
better. I liked the world building and the characters. Each of Nix’s mates are
different and bring something to the relationship. Two things that bother me –
one how do all these people keep finding them? It is never explained how, and
she ran long and far so how did they find her so quickly. Two – cliff hanger ending,
and the next book doesn’t come out until mid-year, so you don’t complete the
story and make me wait forever for the conclusion. I’ll try to remember to look
this up in a couple months but if not… meh.
Susan is a struggling single mom. She's looking dependable
babysitter when her boss brings her Deek. He's a submissive in the pack und
would never mistreat anyone. The only concern Susan has is that he's a
werewolf. However, the longer Deek is with them the less she wants to see him
leave. Will they find there HEA?
I enjoyed this one. It was funny a different kind of
shifter. The love interest isn't the alpha it's the submissive of the pack and
he just wants to show his love to Susan and her kids. I loved seeing the
interactions with the kids, and seeing Deek come out of his shell. It was a
quick, easy, for read.
Joanna and her men just want to spend their holidays
together relaxing but family obligation sends them to Callum’s family home.
Callum’s father Duncan is the worst, and he is claiming war is coming and wants
Callum to help prepare for the war. When the worst happens, and Joanna is
kidnapped will her men be able to get her safe?
I really enjoyed the first book but felt there needed to be
more world building. This one confirms the need for more world building. I have
no idea where anything is or why some have magic, and some don’t. I did enjoy
learning more about Callan. Does end with the next book being set up so a bit
of a cliff hanger esq ending.
Lux saw her mother be handed over by her father and be
burned on a pyre. She's then sent off to live with her grandmother to be raised
proper. There she meets. Fenrir. He's a beast who thirsts for blood and sex. He
wants her and will have no matter what anyone says or does.
I Love a good retelling of a fable. This was not one.
There's no development.at all for character or plot. There were a ton of grammatical issues as
well. The book ends up be smut and nothing else for the 190 pgs. One of the
worst books I've read lately.
Lt. Eva La Croix and her all-female crew land on a planet they
think is a good substitute for earth. The problem they are captured by the
aliens of the planet and forced into a mating. She is planning on ignoring him
and escaping the first chance she gets. She just needs to ignore the growing
attraction she has for her mate. When there’s a misunderstanding drives them
apart will they be able to come back together?
I was so not expecting to hate this book, but I did. The
first book I read had Dominance and spanking, but it never felt abusive. This
book felt abusive. Women are to be seen and not heard. They have a device to
put on women that prevents women from talking. At one point in the book, Eva
decides to leave; changes her mind, and ends up kidnapped. When she is brought back,
she is whipped for harming her mate by leaving. She didn’t know this would
happen as no one told her. There were a couple other parts that felt abusive,
but the women just accepted this as their new life. There are a couple other
books in the series and I’m skipping them.
An American Belle is trying to study at the University of
Oxford. The problem she wants, needs, and Craves sex all the time. She
discovers there is a S.A. group on campus and decides that's the way to curb
her urges. The problem it's not sex aholic anonymous but Shifters' Anonymous.
She's human and not supposed to know about shifters. The men she meets don't
want to lose her so they will do anything to keep her safe. Will they be able
too?
I really didn't like Belle. She came across as a spoilt
brat. I also felt like the book was just paced really weird. Because the pacing
was off the development of the characters was lacking. Skipping the rest of the
series.
Lexie ran from home and the monsters under her bed. 15-years
later and she’s finally come home. Will the monsters be there to get her?
WTF did I just read. There is no world building and the book
ends on a cliff hanger. All we know is FMC left home because of monsters. She’s
back after years away and she’s avoiding home. The author does do chapters
sprinkled throughout of the past which was a bit jarring. Monster sex didn’t
bother me but when it’s revealed she’s the missing heir and is going to be
mated to the ruling king, I was majorly skeeved out as that is her biological
uncle. This ends just as things are
getting started and I have so many questions. I may pick up the next one. I
haven’t decided.
Princess Adora Solen is on the way to marry her father's
ally when her convoy is attacked and she's taken by her Kingdom's sworn enemy,
King of Shadows Caliban Morgen. Taken to his Kingdom and not sure where she
stands, Adora tries to make the best of it. The problems start when she starts
raving Caliban but with their Kingdoms at war can they find their HEA?
I remember reading this and was happy with the story at the
time but sitting down to write the review and I can't recall any of the actual
story. It's that forgettable. I recall books from years ago and for whatever
reason this one doesn't stick. I skimmed it to refresh. I like the give and
take between Adora and Caliban. The pacing in it was good through the first
half but went a bit sideways the second half. Overall, it was just ok.
Joanna Wick was hired has a librarian at the Canderfey
University. She is barely magical and just wants to be around the books. She
finds herself attracted to three professors at the university, Aiden, Callum,
and Metclaffe. They are a coven waiting on their fourth. She knows she can’t
have them, but she wants them. When mysterious things begin happening around
campus and there’s no explanation will the four of them figure it out before
more people end up dead?
Interesting fantasy book. I liked the back and forth between
all the characters. I loved her magic and how she found out she had magic. It
will be interesting to see where the series goes.
Innuit was raised to be the alpha of a pack. When his pack
is destroyed, and he’s taken in by another he wants nothing to do with being an
alpha. After an upheaval in the pack leads to them needing an alpha son heir,
he’s selected. He’s spends years learning how to run the pack waiting for his
chosen mate. Willa was kept in the middle of no where with her mom and father.
She dealt with abuse and training and when her parents are killed, she has to
venture out. She’s different and Innuit’s pack is scared of her, but he wants
her. Will they figure out who is out for the pack and be able to save everyone
they care about?
I had been looking forward to this book forever since Inuit
was introduced in the first book. I loved him in that book, but this book
didn’t work for me. The first issue was the book was way to freaking long. To
many details that were unnecessary for the story and not enough other
information to help round out the story. I liked Inuit and Willa together and I
liked how the story worked out. They really just needed to cut out some of the
filler in the story.
Quinn needs to discover if she is the product of her blood
or if she can overcome her mother. Will they be able to banish the evil and
save Quinn?
How do you end one series in a cliffhanger? Basically,
Cassidy is setting up her next series and ended this book with a cliff hanger.
On top of that aggravation the main story didn’t feel completed. Maybe these
guys will all be in the next series, but I was left wanting with this book. The
main story concluded. They were able to defeat the bad guy so yay. However,
they talked about FMC becoming immortal and taking some test and that was never
followed up on. I just feel very unfulfilled.
Carmichael is the alpha son of a broken pack. He hates
omegas as they are just manipulative people and he wants nothing to do with
them until he meets his fated mates, twins Cassie and Mattie. Cassie and Mattie
went to separate universities. Cassie wanting to get away from drama at her
school visits her brother at his school. Mattie is dealing with an alpha at his
school who doesn’t adhere to his no and forces him into doing things he doesn’t
want but he won’t tell his sister or the pack that loves him. It continues
until Carmichael intervenes and puts a stop to it. Even though he wants nothing
to do with omegas he can’t walk away from his mates. Will they find a way to
live together?
This one I had some issues with. There is borderline inappropriate
relations between the biological twins in this one. Like at one point
Carmichael has them face to face during a sex act. It just skeeved me out. They
didn’t do anything, but parts were close enough together to give me an ick
factor. I ended up skipping literally every sex scene as they were all this
icky to me. If this works for you the writing was just as good as the other
books and the overall story was very good.
Princess Aurelia has been kidnapped and they plan on selling
her off. She is rescued by Lord Darios from the Fire Planet. They are enemies
but he plans on returning her to her family. What he doesn’t plan on is falling
for her. Will they figure out who arranged her kidnapping and keep her safe?
There were many times I wanted to shake both Aurelia and
Darios. Darios didn’t want her in danger even though if he had just taken her
the problems with the other world would have been resolved as shown by her
disobeying him and showing up to explain what happened. Once everything was
straightened out between them, they got down to finding the bad guy. Overall, I
enjoyed the story and wouldn’t mind more books in this world.
Olivier is not used to being hounded by reporters like his
players but after he saves the life of a senator’s daughter from a burning car,
he can’t get them to leave him alone. He’s now trending on Twitter where
everyone wants Olivier and Daphne to have a fairytale romance and happy ending.
Neither of them is interested in that but to appease the masses and the
reporters they meet up. Olivier is attracted to her and is interested in
spending more time with her. Daphne hates being told what to do and when her
parents push her to spend time with Olivier, she’s not sure what to do with
him. Will they find their happy ending?
I wanted to like this more then I did but I didn’t like
Daphne. She was hard to connect with. If her mom said the sky was blue, then
she argued it was green. Even though she liked Olivier she wasn’t interested in
pursuing him because that was what her parents wanted. Like I get not wanting
to do what your parents want but if you like him why would you walk away from
something that could be great just because it’s what your parents want. She was
younger than him which isn’t a problem usually, but she read younger than her
actual age. I can’t even describe how ridiculous she was. At one point he
donates funds to her nonprofit and she gets mad about it and then gets out of
her own head and contacts him. He happened to have left his phone off for a
weekend away with his daughter and she got mad that he didn’t respond right
away. She understood why after he explained but it was just ridiculous couple
of scenes. Overall, it fit in with the rest of the series and it was definitely
not my favorite book.
Ester is on the verge of losing her position as a maid for
her ill reputation. She finds a position that is perfect for her at the Rookgrave
Manor where she will seduce men of different natures. She’s not sure it’s the
right fit for her as she is a bit too wicked. Things are working out well for
her and her men but the protections on the house are failing and this puts them
all at risk. Will they discover what’s causing the problems?
This was a very interesting historical romance with more
than a splash of erotica. I loved how open Esther was and her need to please
her men. There was a lot of sex but also a story that went with it. I enjoyed
all the supernaturals and that they are all look for love. The biggest issue I
had was the lack of world building. You eventually get an understanding but
it’s much further in the book then it should be. The other bad – the next book
doesn’t come out until next year.
Molly is asked to do an in-depth article on Kit Carter. She
is used to doing hard hitting articles with deep dive into the subject matter.
Kit wasn’t expecting this when he was asked to sit down with a reporter. Molly
surprises him in many other ways and he wants her to keep. Will she be able to
get out of her own head and see what she would be missing if she walks away?
I loved these two. The struggle they both had with having a
good and healthy adult relationship after everything they both have been
through was an interesting read. Kit was a shy and reserved player who didn’t
want the spotlight and it was fun to see how he handled this aspect and having
to give an interview. Molly had her own issues. She was very OCD about things and
felt she had to have control over everything and that led to problems with Kit.
There were some issues that were brought up in the story that weren’t resolved
and that was a bit frustrating. The couple ends up together and were a super
sweet couple but would have liked some things to be wrapped up more. Overall it
was a solid story just missing somethings.
Nina is hired to landscape a private island off the coast of
New England. She was surprised to get the bid as she’s been unable to get a job
due to her previous partner. Who cares that it’s on an island that is haunted
and there have been mysterious happenings and people being injured.
The story started out very slow. I’ve tried to read this
book several times and put it down every time. I started it on audio and that
got me over the hump to the good part. It also took me time to get used to the
Deacon / Nina, Jake / Cindy, Dotty POV plus all the ghosts POV. Once I figured
it out, I really enjoyed the story and the couples. I did have the ending
figured out well before the end. Overall, it was worth reading and it fit Molly
Harper’s style.
After the death of his wife Jonah has no intention of
finding someone new. He isn’t ready for someone else when his cop brother asks
him for a favor that means he will have to pretend to be the boyfriend to an
undercover FBI agent to take down a sex trafficker he’s willing to take on a
girlfriend. Reyna has spent years undercover and to get close to a billionaire
suspected of trafficking girls she is willing to just about anything even if
that means pretending to be the girlfriend of a hockey player.
This one was just ok. I looked forward to Jonah getting his
happy ending after the loss of his wife in a previous book, but I didn’t really
feel a connection to Rey or felt like they meshed. It was well written book,
and it fits with the rest of the series but it just wasn’t one of my favorite
books. I’ll still read the rest of them.
Shayla has been abused her entire life by her mother. She's
just waiting for her 20th birthday to be able to get out. Her friend drags her
out for one last night out before going off to academy where she decides to
lose her virginity and ends up finding her fated mate. This changes all her plans.
Forced to go to Academy and learn magic she doesn’t want to have. Will she find
her way and her mates without losing herself?
I liked this one a lot. It was a new take for me on academy.
It is very much a slow burn and only brief moments of fun times between
characters. There is some MM so if that's not your cup of tea give this one a
pass. I wanted a little bit more world building to explain some aspects of how
this world works but nothing so drastic that it detracted from my reading. It
does end on a cliffhanger esq ending. You find out a bunch of things but left
hanging on some very big important things. Definitely worth the read.
Finley is trying to keep all of her neighbors safe and
healthy but it’s getting harder and harder. She needs things she can’t get
easily, and the Beast makes it harder. When he captures her will she be able to
resist the lure of him?
I love a good retelling of a fairy tale. This one was ok. It
was more instalust and not a whole lot of love. There wasn’t a whole lot of
world building or explaining what is going on and it ends on a cliff hanger. I
am really tired of books ending in cliff hanger ending. We still see how many
books and damned if I’m going to continue future books.
Maverick is coming to the end of his college years and isn't
sure if he's on the right path. He has one final hook up over the summer and
though he wants to see Clover again he doesn't think it will work. What he
wasn't expecting was walking into his creative writing class and finding Clover
is his new professor.
So much angst in this book. It is a super sweet but angsty
book. I was a tad confused in the beginning as Kody and Lavendar weren't
together but I quickly realized Clover and Maverick was overlapping their story
and then things clicked for me. I loved Clover being the older of the two.
Liked less that she was still married when they first hooked up. I also didn't
feel like Maverick and Kody patched things up in this book. If it happened in
book 1 I can't remember. Can't wait to see who gets the next book.
Mina is poor and has been left to raise her younger siblings
as her mother is to drugged up to deal with anything. Her fated mate Blu, believes
the rumors about her and thinks she’s a whore which leads him to refuse her. Teague
is the right hand of the Alpha Alexander, and he craves Mina. He tries to take
care of her the best he can. Alexander needs Teague to not go rogue, so he institutes
the Breeder Program to kill two birds with one stone. Mina is given a choice to
be bred by Teague and be given the help she needs or to continue to struggle.
When she chooses to be with him this throws Blu as he didn’t realize how hard
it would be to see Mina with another. Will they be able to find a balance?
If you are interested in a MMF with some dubious consent
this one, will it the mark. I loved Teague and Mina. Blu earns his way into the
relationship with both Teague and Mina. It just really worked on the super
drama filled book with some MM, MF, and MFM. I can’t even explain why I enjoyed
this book as much as I did but I did. Definitely worth giving it a shot.
"The heart, the raw authenticity, the original lens, this has become my favorite series of the year and I'm begging for more!" ~ Catherine Cowles, USA Today bestselling author
Bitter Sweet Heart, a steamy, reverse age gap, hockey romance from New York Times bestselling author Helena Hunting writing as H. Hunting, is now available!
From the outside looking in, I live a charmed life: hockey legend for a father, my own promising future in the league, a great family, awesome friends. It’s not untrue, but it’s not quite that simple either.
My dad’s advice has always been to make hockey my number-one priority—at least until I make it to the pros. So, going into my senior year of college, I have a plan. I’ll put in the effort required to pass my classes, play hockey like my life depends on it, and avoid relationships. All I have to do is stay focused on the end game, and I’ll walk away with a degree and into a career in the NHL.
It should be easy.
But when a woman literally floats into my dock, just before summer ends and my senior year begins, I can’t resist one last hookup. What harm could a one-night stand do? It’s not like we even exchanged numbers.
Everything is fine until I run into her on campus.
It’s a big school. I should be able to avoid her.
Except she happens to be in my class.
And she’s not a student.
She’s my professor.
