Myths and Monsters by Beatrix Hollow

2 Stars

My plan was to travel the country writing about the things I see and to get away from my strange family. Instead, my first stop in West Virginia shows you can never get away from the strange. Will I survive what’s coming for me?

This book had a good idea but needs work. There was no world building or character development. This led to the book basically being all about sex and nothing else. Nothing wrong with that but I like to have some story with my sex and this was not the case.

Entranced by the Basilisk by Lillian Lark

3 Stars

Emilia was a human who was just doing her job when she opens the wrong thing at the library and ends up cursed. Her boss knows someone who may be able to help her. Ari and Jasper will have to live with her to help her control her snakes. Will they be able to keep their hands on to themselves while working on control?

This book was good and I enjoyed it but it was also incredibly slow. I found there to be a pacing issue. There were many times I wanted the story to hurry up but not in a I can’t wait to find out what’s going to happen but in a can we move on already. The writing itself was good and I enjoyed the story. I wanted them all to get their happy ending and they eventually do. Overall it was a fine read.

I'm not a huge fan of Box sets usually. There tends to be too many books in there that I don't like versus the books that I do like. This one is not that I enjoyed most of the books in this one. I didn't feel I needed to read other books by the authors to understand the stories. In fact I picked up a couple new authors that I want to check out their back catalog to find out what else they written cause the books were that good. Well worth picking up and giving it a shot to see if you can find some new authors.
