River’s End by Leanne Davis

3 Star

Erin Poletti has to stay with her brother after her mother’s suicide.  She doesn’t want to but he’s all she has left.  She hooks up with the ranch owners’ youngest brother but when her brother leaves her high and dry after stealing from his boss she has to figure out what she is going to do.  She’s keeping secrets but it doesn’t have anything to do with her brother or the money.  Jack doesn’t want Erin on his ranch.  Didn’t like it when she hooked up with his brother and doesn’t like it that he wants to help her.  When her secrets are revealed will he be able to handle it?

This is a weird rating for me.  I enjoyed the writing style and the storyline had potential.  My biggest issue was the character flaws with the main characters.  Erin was just willing to be the whipping girl for everyone.  At some point in the book, she should have stood up for herself, but she never did.  All of the adults in the book sucked.  The kids had more compassion than all of the adults put together.  Jack was willing to think the worst of Erin and was a major giant dick to her because of HIS preconceived notions and then gives a half ass apology.  My biggest gripe was the slut shaming thrown at Erin throughout the book.  Here’s hoping the next book is a little bit better.
