Last Rose by Kitt Lynn

3.5/4 Stars

Corie has been through so much in her life that she needs a special pack to take her on. She thinks she has found that pack but with her trauma will they work out?

I waffled with rating this one. The beginning of the book was incredibly slow to get into the story but it does pick up the more you read. It ended up being a really good book once I got several chapters into it. Corie is incredibly strong woman who has so much thrown at her at such a young age. It was interesting to see her come into her own with her pack. Overall, I enjoyed the story but there was a pacing issue.

Freefall by Elise Faber

4 Stars

Raven loved being a doctor and also loved fighting with Connor Jackson. When he saves her from a fire. Now he’s taking care of her, and she HATES it. When she takes off in the middle of the night Connor is worried but when she comes back things are looking up. Will they find a way to HEA?

I enjoyed this a lot. Raven has a lot of trauma she is working through that she doesn’t tell Connor about at first. She eventually does and it’s heartbreaking what she’s gone through. There were tears shed reading this book, but I did enjoy it overall. Raven is a dick at the beginning, but she does make it up to him by the end of the book. Then of course Elise Faber gives a little clip for the next book and makes me mad it isn’t out until September.

Cady inherited a bookshop from her aunt. She needs to find proof her aunt owned it to be able to keep it. When her shop is broken into the mystery man she’s been speaking to on the phone, Fox, decides enough is enough and he will do whatever he can to protect her. She can never know it’s him as he is too screwed up to be with him.

I wanted to like this more than I did. It was a slow burn romance which was fine. However, I never really connected with Cady and Fox. There’s no world building. I felt like we were just dumped into this story, and nothing is really explained. The bad guys were obvious, and they aren't really punished in any way. It just was an ok read for me.

Pack of Freaks by Miss Renae

3 stars

Rain Elara has been accepted to Blood Moon Academy for the next three years. Her dad is forcing her to bond with some people she doesn’t want to protect her baby sister. She will do anything to protect that little girl including pretending that she is her daughter. This isn’t the only secret to be had. There are so many to go around. Will she be able to keep her safe and will she find away out of her arranged marriage?

I enjoyed this one. It had an interesting take on supernatural and why choose. I liked Rain. She was trying to do the best she could to survive and keep the only person she cared about safe. It took a bit for me to get behind her guys, but they do end up being the best thing for her. There are two more books in the series but they are with secondary characters from this book.

Paranormal Investigation and Enforcement by MJ Knight

Taking out bad guys is what living my best life looks like until Hauk Ravenshaw shows up and forms a blood bond with me. Now we are stuck together. This brings my long term friend Gtay Shun in to try and help me get out of the blood bond. What will happen?

I wanted to love this book because I had read another book by her and absolutely loved that one. This one was incredibly slow to get into it and I struggled to connect to the characters as there was no building of them.

Charming Devils by Katie May

3 Stars

Peony is back with a new look and ready to get the revenge she deserves. The boys who are now men need to watch out because they are in for a reconning that is long overdue.

I enjoyed this book, but it was a bit disjointed. There needs to be some better world building and character development to make the story better. I also took issue with Peony supposedly being this powerful witch and able to take on all this stuff but everyone is doing the heavy lifting for her. Mild spoiler, to force Peony to do what she wants her mother threatens her. To get around this Peony’s grandmother ends up disowning her daughter which supposedly severs their magic. Why no idea as it’s never explained. If it was that easy to take someone out why didn’t the mother do this earlier to screw over Peony.

Knightmaster by Anna Hackett

4 Stars

Exploring new places is what xenoanthropologist Kennedy Black likes to do. When an opportunity comes up that allows her to travel to Oron to meet the Oronis for a ball and possibly a new connection for earth. What she wasn’t expecting was the instant connection with Knightmaster Ashtin Caydor and then for the ball to be assaulted, the queen taken, and evidence pointing to humans being behind the whole thing. Kennedy is determined to prove earth had nothing to do with it.

I loved this spin off series. It has everything I like about an alien romance. The one issue I had was how quickly Ashtin was to jump to the earth convoy being responsible for the kidnapping of his queen. Pacing was slightly off for me. It was going along nicely then it flew to Ashtin and Kennedy almost hooking up to the queen getting kidnapped. It was a bit jarring. Good start to a new series.
