Never, ever fall for your brother’s annoying, infuriating, gorgeous best friend.

Gia Norcross’ life is exactly how she likes it. She has a successful PR firm in San Francisco, a beautiful apartment, a loving family of overprotective brothers, and her fabulous designer shoe collection.

Perfection

Sure, occasionally she has to deal with her aggravating nemesis who happens to be her brother’s best friend. Saxon Buchanan: tall, rich, handsome, bossy, and knows how to work her last nerve.

She’ll never, ever admit to anyone that most days, she isn’t sure if she wants to punch the arrogant, tattooed, suit-wearing know-it-all…or kiss him.

After a military career spent in a covert special ops team doing hard, dirty, and very classified missions, Saxon Buchanan is happy working at Norcross Security as the company’s top troubleshooter. He also enjoys the perks of civilian life. That includes sparring with smart, sexy Gia of the wide brown eyes, luscious curves, and sharp tongue. He’s spent half his life fighting the pull of his best friend’s little sister.

But seeing a man aim a gun at Gia changes everything.

When Gia’s troubled childhood best friend drags her into a really, really bad situation, soon bullets are flying, precious gemstones are missing, and Gia’s in danger. Saxon’s done pushing away the one woman he’s ever wanted.

He’ll do everything to protect her, and he’s not letting anything get in his way: not the bad guys, not his best friend, and especially not Gia.

 BLURB

Secrets, desires, and exquisite pie. It’s all in a day’s work at The Company.

Growing up, I was the rough guy from the wrong neighborhood who couldn’t catch a break. Posy was the pampered girl I tried to impress. But I managed to steal only a single kiss before I had to skip town.

Now I’m back, and the tables are turned. Posy runs a struggling pie shop. I’m the VP of a secretive billion-dollar security company.

Not that I can tell her.

There’s a murderer on the loose in New York, and he seems to spend a lot of time at Posy’s shop. I can’t let on that I’m here to bring him down before he can harm a hair on her pretty head.

Going undercover as Posy’s new barista wasn’t my idea. I don’t even drink coffee. But now I have to call her “boss,” and do everything the curvy perfectionist asks of me. I’d forgotten how much we infuriate each other, and that she somehow fills me with both irritation and desire in the same breath.

There’s nobody more skilled at stealth ops than me. I can bring this killer down. Right after I take a cold shower. And just as soon as I figure out how to make a skinny peppermint latte with milk poured in the shape of a kitten…

Nice Werewolves Don’t Bite Vampires by Molly Harper

3 Star

Tylene McClaine has spent her life trying to avoid her pack.  She doesn’t fit in and she wants to spread her wings and live her own life but that isn’t pack life.  She’s drowning until she meets Alex, a vampire, teaching music to the residents of Half-Moon Hollow.  She begins meeting him in secret to keep her pack from knowing.  How long can she keep the ruse up when vampire’s properties are being vandalized?

There were things about this book I enjoyed but overall was not in love with it like some of the other books in the series.  It felt to me like it was all over the place.  It felt like the bad guy was an afterthought.  I also didn’t really like the relationship between Tylene and Alex.  I didn’t get the connection like I have seen with other characters Molly Harper has written. While writing this review I was looking at the book information and this book is only 240 pages.  It felt like it was way longer than that.  Overall, it was an ok book.  The best parts were the ones with the original cast of characters.  It can technically be read as a standalone but is better to have read the rest of the series. Here’s hoping this was a one off and the next one is better

Whelon by Celia Kyle and Anne Hale

1 Star

Sasha Dane is a minor celebrity who is trying to promote her opinions about the Preor.  She is determined to prove they kidnap women and shouldn’t be allowed to stay on earth.  She snags an invite to the Preor Choosing and hopes to show the world how bad they are.  Instead she ends up mated to Healing Master Whelon.  Whelon has never liked these events but he shows up and finds his mate.  Instead of being a happy experience his mate is whisked away and mating sickness sets in for both of them.  When he finally tracks her down they should have their happy ending but events are going against them and they will need to find a way to be together.

I hated this book so much.  I barely finished it and it is was just because I wanted to see if it would get better.  It didn’t.  I loved Healing Master Whelon but I can’t say the same for Sasha.  She was a whiney brat who was so freaking weak.  She keeps going back to her mother who is determined to bring down the Preor and will do anything to get what she wants even if it kills Sasha.  Sasha lets her get away with it.  You are an adult who has a mate why would you keep going back to your mother who is literally killing you.  This book is not like the beginning series.  I used to love them and rereading them.  I used to preorder all of them and with the last one and now this one and I am just done.  The series had strong women who had gone through so much and still kicking.  The last couple have had very week female characters and I am just over it.  Maybe Celia Kyle should just end it.

Revenge and Rapture by Deborah Wilde

5 Stars

Ash is trying to figure out how to take down Isaac and Chariot and doesn’t know how it will play out.  When Isaac's wife hires Ash to find something her husband wants so she can get out of the marriage.  The Queen of Hearts doesn’t want to help her find the something that will help her with quest.  She finds out her mother has gotten a blackmail message threatening to reveal Ash’s magic and she has to track down who is behind it.  All of this while dealing with the fall out of the break up with Levi.  Ash could use a long break.

This was one of the best conclusion to a series I’ve read in a long time.  It wrapped everything up nicely.  I loved how Ash and Levi resolved their conflict from the last book.  I would love to see more with the Queen of Hearts but it didn’t take away anything from the story.  I just want to know more about what led her where she was.  The character development continue in this story and fleshed out even more.  I loved the secondary characters just as much as I do Ash.  Can’t wait for her next series.

Destiny’s Delta by Becca Jameson

3.5 Stars

Destiny Fisher has spent the last 12 years regretting saying yes to a proposal.  She’s had to live with the death of her fiancé and knowing she can never have the man she loves.  She planned to keep it all to herself until she got drunk at a bar and ran into the man she can’t have.  Trent Dawkins has regrated telling his brother to go after the girl next door from the minute he said go for it.  He thought he could never have her until she gets drunk and spills all her inner secrets.  Now that they know they want each other they will have to navigate the issues from their families and his being a delta.

I had a hard time getting past the twin thing and dating someone because you didn’t think you would ever be able to have the one you wanted.  Then because you dated the one twin you really can’t date the other one.  The other issue I had with the book was her getting mad when he was on a mission and didn’t tell her that he was staying local for it.  That is literally the point of a delta team.  They don’t talk about their missions at all.  Other than these two issues the book was pretty good.  It was interesting to see a plot point continue from the last book to this book.  My issues with the story are my issues with certain plot points and shouldn’t deter you from reading it because the writing was really good.  The pacing was spot on and it adds to the overall series.

Nori's Delta by Lori Ryan

4 Stars

Delta Team Three member Heath “Woof” Davis has spent years in the military.  When he is assigned to protect a member of the State Department it is just another assignment until he finds out it is Eleanor Duncan a woman from his past.  She was his everything until they broke up and he joined the military.  Eleanor has spent her time since High School working her way up the chain in the State Department.  She’s sent in to negotiate with a man who has taken some doctors and nurses hostage.  She is determined to not fall for her high school sweetheart again but with a high stress situation all bets are off.

I enjoyed this story a lot.  I am not always a fan of “fan-fiction” of authors I love but this book did Susan Stoker’s series justice.  We first met Team Three in one of her books and it is interesting to see them get their own story.  The pacing in the story was spot on.  There weren’t any parts of the story that felt like it was moving too slow or too fast.  It was a really good story and I am hopeful the rest of the books will be just as good.
