Radoo by Celia Kyle and Anne Hale

1 Star

Livvy has no love for the Dragons of Preor.  She wants them off Earth and doesn't believe they are there for some benign reason.  When her group plants bombs to take out those who support the Preor and the Preor themselves Livvy tries to stop them.  In the process she finds out she is mated to Radoo.  Livvy isn't sure she wants Radoo but the mating sickness will kill her if she stays away from him.  Radoo has waited centuries for his fated mate.  He's not sure what to do with a mate who seems to hate everything about him.  Will he bring her around?

I've read this series from the beginning.  When they started they weren't the most literary book in the world but they were cute and I liked the characters and the premise of the story.  Several books back the series took a turn.  It didn't feel like a good turn but I was willing to give it a chance.  I at least still sort of liked the characters.  The last one I bought was book 11.  I HATED that book and the characters.  Book 12 wasn't any better so when this one came out I was going to give it one more shot to be better.  This one was the worst of the last three.  Livvy was a horrible woman who didn't deserve any good things coming her way.  She let her fear and hate take over everything.  What pissed me off the most with this book was even though she was part of the group who actively tried to set bombs off all was forgiven.  Not only forgiven but she is put in charge of the military that she abandoned.  There wasn't a single redeeming characteristic about her.  Radoo deserved so much better for his partner.  I don't understand why Ms. Kyle and Hale feel woman who either aren't mentally able to consent or want to even be with these aliens make good heroines.  They don't and I walk away from reading a book mad.  I think I am officially done with the series unless I see a different cowriter or it go back to just Celia Kyle.

Whelon by Celia Kyle and Anne Hale

1 Star

Sasha Dane is a minor celebrity who is trying to promote her opinions about the Preor.  She is determined to prove they kidnap women and shouldn’t be allowed to stay on earth.  She snags an invite to the Preor Choosing and hopes to show the world how bad they are.  Instead she ends up mated to Healing Master Whelon.  Whelon has never liked these events but he shows up and finds his mate.  Instead of being a happy experience his mate is whisked away and mating sickness sets in for both of them.  When he finally tracks her down they should have their happy ending but events are going against them and they will need to find a way to be together.

I hated this book so much.  I barely finished it and it is was just because I wanted to see if it would get better.  It didn’t.  I loved Healing Master Whelon but I can’t say the same for Sasha.  She was a whiney brat who was so freaking weak.  She keeps going back to her mother who is determined to bring down the Preor and will do anything to get what she wants even if it kills Sasha.  Sasha lets her get away with it.  You are an adult who has a mate why would you keep going back to your mother who is literally killing you.  This book is not like the beginning series.  I used to love them and rereading them.  I used to preorder all of them and with the last one and now this one and I am just done.  The series had strong women who had gone through so much and still kicking.  The last couple have had very week female characters and I am just over it.  Maybe Celia Kyle should just end it.

Vende by Celia Kyle and Anne Hale

Vende (Scifi Alien Dragon Romance) (Dragons of Preor Book 11) by [Celia Kyle, Anne Hale]

After having a head injury as a child, Dawn, never thought she would be able to go anywhere but her family’s farm.  When the Preor realize they are running out of essential plants for healing remedies they look for an expert on Earth who may be able to bring the plants back to life.  They find Dawn’s family and have her come to their spaceship where she runs into Vende.  When they meet they experience the Knowing and change starts to happen with both of them.  Will they be able to fix all the problems that come their way?

This book disappointed me.  I’ve read all the books in the series.  Some were more successful than others but this one didn’t work for me at all.  I don’t know if it was due to a new cowriter, but it fell flat for me.  There were two big disappointments for me.  The first one was the fact that Dawn was so very demanding in a rude way once she was mated.  Demanding people do things for her and criticizing the way they had done things because it was simply wrong.  Even though she didn’t know their background lets just yell at them for doing something wrong.  The second one was the deal breaker for me completely.  Dawn had a brain injury as a child that left her very childlike.  She literally had no idea what sex was.  We are supposed to be enjoying a story about someone mating another who still acts like she’s 6.  I get that she was “healed” before they officially mated but she still didn’t understand.  It just skeeved me out.  I don’t like being skeeved out by the main characters and it just ruined the whole book for me.
