ABOUT THE BOOK

ROGUE DARKNESS
Immortal Guardians Book 12
by Dianne Duvall

Release Date: June 13th, 2023
New York Times bestselling author Dianne Duvall brings readers the next stand-alone novel in her “fast-paced and humorous” (Publishers Weekly) and “utterly addictive” (RT Book Reviews) Immortal Guardians series.

Immortal Guardians have hunted and slain psychotic vampires for thousands of years. Now someone is hunting them. Humanity remains oblivious to the existence of immortals, vampires, and gifted ones, so how does this rising nemesis even know who they are and where to find them? Could it be the machinations of an old nemesis—one they thought they defeated? Or is this something new? Because unlike the foes they’ve faced in the past, this one doesn’t just target immortals. He targets those who are near and dear to them.

A gifted one under the Immortal Guardians’ protection, Nicole has worked hard to land her dream job—that of an Immortal Guardian’s Second or mortal guard—and loves working with Sean. He’s smart. He’s funny. And despite the sometimes dark existence he leads, the two of them laugh a lot. Years spent as a special ops soldier prepared Nicole well, enabling her to keep Sean safe despite his tendency to dive headlong into danger. But can it keep her safe? The enemy they face is determined and shrewd. Uncovering his identity may require new methods of engagement and force her to take a few risks.
Sean hasn’t been immortal long, but he knows the rules. And according to the rules, Nicole is off-limits. She’s his Second. His guard. His best friend. The one person who knows him better than anyone else. Though he loves every minute he spends with her, friendship is all they can ever have... isn’t it? Sean soon begins to question that as the two of them engage in a deadly cat-and-mouse game with the enemy, one that will reveal the true depth of their feelings for each other and drive him to abandon the rules altogether.

Virgin Hunt Volume 1 by Mel Teshco

3 Stars

Melody Needs money for her family so she enters the Virgin Games. She is determined to get the most out of it even if that means having sex with all of the contestants. The first alien she runs into Damon is everything she wants but isn’t who she’s supposed to be with, but he will earn more money and he wants to get her more money. How will this play out?

It was ok. It had some plot with the sex. I loved that the Melody was all about getting hers even if that meant giving up her V card. I would have liked some more world building because all of these people came from different worlds and it was mentioned but not elaborated on.

Doubling Down by Ophelia Bell

2 Stars

My BFF ghosted me and that led to me having the craziest summer ever but them life interferes. Now, years later I am home, and I run into them again. They still blow my mind, but can we make it work?

Wanted more backstory. It was all about sex and no plot. It didn’t make sense why FMC left as her family seemed fine with her relationship. She comes back to visit and it’s all sunshine and daisies with her men. It just didn’t flow for me.

Come Back to Me by Sirena Song

4 Stars

Lizzy has spent years knowing who her fated mates were and knowing she would never be able to be with them. They were her brother’s best friends and they only thought of her as their little sister. Even if occasionally, they have thoughts that are not very brotherly. She is hoping for a fresh start when she goes off to Omega Finishing Academy but knows that’s not going to happen. When she comes back to town after being gone for several years the guys realize their mistake but is it too late for them?

This was a good redemption book. I love that Lizzy doesn’t just take her fated mates back when they discover she hasn’t been lying. They were horrible to her and deserved to grovel. I was and still mad at her brother and her parents. They put everything on her. It was her fault she didn’t fight more for her fated. Like what else was she supposed to do? Her brother actively did things that caused problems, but she needed to make amends. The ending was a little too pat for me, but I still enjoyed the book.

Vampires of Montana by Susan Copperfield

2 Stars

Daphne Niell is known as the Vampire of Montana. She is sent in to sniff out the terrorists and protect the royals. She’s sent to Spain for vacation but finds she’s been tricked. Now she needs to track down the terrorists and keep everyone in the airport safe. To help with the ruse of her being a tourist she picks a tall handsome man in the ticket line and promises him a ride home if he helps her. He’s intrigued by her and agrees and gets pulled into saving everyone. When they get out will he be able to walk away?

I wanted to like this book. It was more about Will than it was about Edward and Daphne. You start to get to know Ed and Daphne and then bam the airport explodes, and the book becomes about Will and his family. It’s also all about horses and cats. I love a good cat, but I wanted to see the relationship develop and it didn’t. It’s been several weeks since I read the book and all I remember is Daphne wanted all the horses and cats to go home with her. That’s it. I can’t remember anything else in the book and it didn’t really add anything to the rest of the series either. Why do I keep reading her books?

Catch Me by Sirena Song

3 Stars

Sadie knows what is expected of her. She will marry who her parents want even if it’s not a match she wants but it will help the family. When she finds out she has an aunt she decides to take a break from life’s expectations and see what’s out there. What she finds is the Jackson Pack but they’ve sworn off omegas after being burned by one. Will the pack be able to get out of their own way to keep Sadie and will Sadie pick love over family expectations?

I actually read these out of order. If I had started with this book, I don’t think I would have read book 2. I loved book 2 and this one was just ok. I didn’t connect well with the characters. Sadie was very whiny throughout the book and very waffly. The pack was also the same way. They wanted her but… It got old very fast and continued throughout the book. The writing was good and book 2 is very good redemption book so if you need to read books in order get through it and get to book 2.

Pay-Per-Heart by Grace McGinty

4 Stars

Blake moved to LA to follow her dreams only to find out the school she was going to go to never existed. Now she needs a job and a place to live. When she finds an ad requesting graphic design help she's intrigued. Her new friend Hennie thinks it's for adult content but she she shows up anyways.

Darwin, Everett, and Harrison are looking for someone to make their photos and social media better. They invite Blake to interview thinking she's a man who won't have a problem with them taking their clothes off for work. They're not sure what to do when she shows up and they find out she's a woman. Her work is too good to not hire her but they have to have iron-clad contract so there's no confusion or issues. Will they be able to keep their hands to themselves or will they discover what they've been missing?

I really enjoyed this one. I loved each of the men she ends up with. They each had their own personality and brought different things to the relationship. As I was reading after she answered the ad for her job, I was wondering what Hennie was thinking since she hadn’t shown up. I was pleasantly surprised when he came back into her life and gave her hell for disappearing. One disappointment was I very much wanted bad things to happen to Blake’s parents and ex. How hard is it to support your loved one with their dream. It all works out well for her but still. Overall, it was a quick and easy read, why choose in modern setting. Definitely pick it up and read.
