Ember and her Marshals by Rosemary A John

2 Stars/3 Stars

Ember thought she had her forever until he disappeared. Ending up in custody not expecting to ever get out she gets comfort from where she can. When they put her up for auction, she was not anticipating her the mate who left her to get her. There’s more at play then she realizes but she’s not sure she can trust anyone let alone the man who already took another omega but the men just might prove her wrong.

I wanted to like this more than I did. The ad I saw described it differently than the actual book, so I had expectations that were not met. That is probably why its rating is so low. It was fine omegaverse book. Nothing really happens in the book. Issues are brought up with the world at large and nothing seems to be resolved. The pack comes together and that is it. I also didn’t like most of the pack which made it harder to read. Meh skipping.

Railed by the Krampus (Valley of the old gods, #3) by Dalia Davies

3 Stars

She thought no one would take her seriously when she said she would sell her soul for a bit of coal for her family, but they did. Krampus is willing to give her the coal, but nothing is free. What she doesn’t realize is he’s playing for keeps.

This was an interesting take on Krampus and was a solid smexy and dirty read. There’s a happily ever after once you get through all the dirty scenes. Even though it is book three in the Valley of the Old Gods series you don’t need to read the Easter Bunny story to read this one.

Entranced by the Basilisks by Lillian Lark

3 Stars

Working in a museum there shouldn’t be any issue with looking at a book but it ends with Emilia being cursed. The only people who can help her are Ark and Jasper. Will they be able to lift the curse or will she have to learn to live with her new reality?

The general idea for this book was good. Plus, it’s set in a museum and someone opens a book when they shouldn’t which makes me think of the movie the Mummy. My issue with this one is it was bogged down by all the interplay between Emilia, Ark, and Jasper. There is too much going on between them and then other forces outside their relationship which slowed the plot down for me. It was still an interesting story and Lillian Lark does an amazing job with world building that I will try another by her.

Sticks and Stone Grace McGinty

4 Stars

Nova Stone is dealing with the death of her parents when she is contacted by social services notifying her that she has an infant half brother that needs to be taken care of. She never thought her dad would cheat but here’s the proof. How is she supposed to handle this. She is the boy’s only relative other than the biological mom’s foster brothers. They want custody but can’t get it with her available to take him in, so they offer to move her to Ann Arbor and help take care of them both. Is this a good decision…only time will tell.

I loved this story. It is very well written why choose hockey romance. Three of my favorite tropes. I love how McGinty builds the world and the relationship between each of the characters. It flowed nicely and the ups and downs they had as they learned to live with their new normal. Definitely worth picking up and reading.

Banging the Easter Bunny by Dalia Davies

She made her bargain and assumed she would be done but she just couldn’t walk away from her easter bunny. She will give almost anything to keep him as her own. The Gods won’t make it easy but if she does everything right she will get the best reward.

Where book one was quick and dirty this one has an actual plot and character development. It is still very dirty, but you get character growth and change. It was a bit jarring after the first one to read this one as I was expecting more quick and dirty and this had way more in it. I liked the growth in the characters and the world. Even though it was longer I still enjoyed the read.

Dance of the Forest King by Alessa Thorn

3 Stars

King Oberon, Taranis, and Mananan were separated from their kin for many years and are now on earth with their nephews. They are here to stop the worlds from being destroyed. If they don’t stop it there will be no more magic. Oberon figures he will have to sacrifice himself to save those he loves until he meets his fated mate. Chrissy is not someone he was expecting and he doesn’t know why she’s always mad at him but he will do anything to keep her safe.

It was an ok read. It felt rushed for most of the book. The romance was nice but also rushed. This is book one in a new series, but it is a spin-off of another one and you do need to read that one to understand this one. They are referenced and it’s been a while since I read the original series and it led to some confusion. Overall, this book left me wanting more. It was ok and there are two more books that I will probably get to eventually.
