Winner Cake All by Denise Swanson

2 Star

Dani is hired to cater an engagement party for Yvette and Franklin. It’s a bit chaotic but is coming together when a storm hits the party. Yvette is found murdered and everyone there is a suspect including her ex, Spencer. Will Dani prove Spencer isn’t the murder?

Yeah, I am done with this series. Some of the dialogue was clunky and didn’t work. I didn’t care for the story or the interplay between the characters. It just all around didn’t work for me.

The Detective by Anna Hackett

3 Star

Savannah Cole is on the run from a stalker. She never stays anywhere to long in fear that he will catch up with her. She ends up house sitting next to Detective Hunter Morgan. He is intrigued by her and wants to know who she is. When he figures out, she’s on the run from something he is determined to help her out. Now he just has to convince her he can keep her safe.

I was looking forward to this one and it just didn’t hit the mark for me. Savannah frustrated me and I wasn’t a huge fan of her. There were several times in the book she was too stupid to live, and Hunt deserved a better partner. You don’t need to have read the rest of the series to read this one. The writing was good I really just didn’t like Savannah. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Bad Best Friend by Elise Faber

4 Star

Cora us tired of her 6 big brothers protecting her from everything. No matter how many times she’s told them to back off they haven’t taken the hint. Now they want their best friend Rafe to move in with her to see what is wrong with her. She very much doesn’t want this as she wants him. They give her the choice of Rafe or one of her brothers. She chooses to have him move in. Rafe was fine with this but was surprised to find it hard to ignore the attraction. Will he get past his fears of losing his family and go for her so they can get their happily ever after?

I loved Cora and Rafe. They were a super cute couple, and both had issues they had to work through to find their happy ending. Rafe really only has Cora’s family as his family, and he doesn’t want to lose that by being with her. It takes him time to figure out he can have everything. I also liked that Cora also had to work through her own issues. Overall, this one fit really well with the rest of the series. You don’t need to have read the rest of the series to read this one it helps but not necessary. I can’t wait for the next one in the series.

Tucker’s Crossing by Marina Adair

3 Star

Cody Tucker thought he was done with his hometown and his high school sweetheart Shelby Lynn, until his dad died. He shows up to claim is inheritance and finds out Shelby was living with his dad. He’s ready to kick her and the rest of the employees off the ranch until he finds out about Shelby’s kid who just so happens to be his. Now he’s got to figure out what he wants and where everything went wrong.

There are two big issues with this book. First which is a big one for me is a secret baby. Shelby thought Cody knew about their kid, but he didn’t. He’s trying to make the best of the whole situation and Shelby kept fighting with him over everything. You can’t be mad when you walked away. They finally work things our and are finding a way to their happy ending and her ex-husband/his ex-friend shows up to cause problems. Things happen with this that would be a huge spoiler. The book just kind of ends with no closure. The book felt unfinished. She’s since released book two so we will see what happens.

Leave No Scone Unturned by Denise Swanson

2.5/3 Star

Weird things are happening at Normalton University and Dani gets dragged into investigating as her business is being hurt by the weird. Will she be able to figure out what is the cause of all the problems?

This was the same as the last one. It was slow and all over the place. Plus, overly detailed on the cooking information. We see a little movement with Dani and Spenser’s relationship but not much. Overall, Meh.

Healing of the Wolf by Cherise Sinclair

3.5 Star

After being rescued from Scythe Margery was happy. That was until the village she was sent to kept her without resources. She was expected to heal all who needed without any compensation which left her reliant on them for everything. She meets a new friend who she asks for a ride somewhere else. When she gets out of town, she refuses to go back no matter what. Tynan is finally home and happy to be away from humans. He’s ready to find a mate and settle down with his littermate Donal. Tynan is very interested in Margery but Donal believing rumors about her banfasa habits wants her as far from them as possible. When Donal finally figures out the rumors aren’t true will they be able to win Margery over?

These are my new favorite group. Donal, I both loved and hated him. He’s an idiot throughout the book but he does make it up to Margery and Tynan. I loved seeing Margery come out of her shell and hold her own against everyone. Plus, she helps out Donal and Tynan work through their issues. We finally get to see a smackdown on the humans who have been after the supernaturals. When this one ended, I wanted another one.

Tart of Darkness by Denise Swanson

3 Star

Dani is tired of her dead-end career when she inherits property from someone she’s never met. She decides to open up a catering business and rent out some of her rooms to local college students. Life is looking up when one of her boarders’ friends winds up dead and Dani becomes a suspect. Not trusting the police, she decides to investigate the murder herself. Will she figure out who the killer is before it’s too late?

This book was okay. There were times it got bogged down with the cooking details. I also had some issues with Dani willingly going to the police station with the cop who is accusing her of the murder. He’s been harassing her and is borderline framing her for the murder. Why would you go with the cop doing this without a lawyer? The romance part was just meh. They kept going over the same stuff without resolving anything. Overall, it was an okay read.
