Better Than Friends by Jill Shalvis

4 Stars

When Olive Porter’s off-the-grid parents go missing, she reluctantly seeks out Noah Turner, her ex and the only person she both trusts implicitly and not at all.

As a special investigative agent for the National Park Service, Noah’s used to living under intense pressure. Or he was until he got injured on the job. Now unhappily recuperating at home while being smothered by his loving but nosy family, he’d love nothing more than a good distraction.

So when Olive shows up looking like a million bucks, he has to do a gut and heart check. Because nope, no matter what, he can’t fall for her again, the woman who once blew up his entire life and never looked back. How ironic then that his own personal hell (Olive) is also his ticket out of town. The question is, will the risk be worth the reward?

I really enjoyed listening to this book. Olive has had an interesting life. I liked Olive with Noah. Loved that the his sister and mom and her grandma were trying to push them together. They both fought the valiant fight to their HEA. When you find out why Olive left that was heartbreaking and I still don’t know exactly why Noah’s dad did what he did. Overall, good listen.

Summer Escape by Jill Shalvis

4 Stars

Anna Moore didn’t just wake up one day and decide to go on a wild quest—especially since her life no longer lends itself to wild anything—so how in the world does she end up racing against the clock with Owen Harris, a sexy, enigmatic adventurist, to prove her beloved dad innocent of stealing a million-dollar necklace?

It’s all Wendy’s fault. Her older, bossy sister, who’s seven months pregnant and on bed rest in their small Lake Tahoe hometown, is desperate to clear their departed dad’s name. Owen, though, is convinced he’s guilty as hell and wants to return the jewelry back to its rightful owner—his elderly great aunt. Together Anna and Owen go on a scavenger hunt for clues to the past (with Wendy remotely along for the ride via an earbud, supplying a running wry commentary to boot).

On opposing sides and suspicious of each other as they are, Anna and Owen still can’t deny the inexplicable and explosive chemistry between them on this heart-stopping adventure, the outcome of which will prove the necklace isn’t the only thing stolen—their hearts have been as well.

I enjoyed this listen. There’s a mystery of who stole the jewels and where they were. Add in FMC not trusting men for some very good reasons. I loved the interactions between FMC and her sister/BIL. I felt the story was more about the mystery than a romance but I still enjoyed listening to it.

Friendship Pact by Jill Shalvis

4 Star

Tae Holmes never met her dad. Her mother April always said he died serving overseas in the military. At a work event Tae is stopped by a stranger and talks about her dad as if he is still alive. She doesn’t want to upset her mom thinking she couldn’t know that her dad was still alive. When she runs into her former friend Riggs, she asks him to help. Will she be able to handle the truth?

I enjoyed this one a lot. The person I felt the most for was Riggs. He was put in a position of a no-win situation, and he runs with it. I hated April. I am sure some people will say she was young and was trying to do what was best for Tae, but I just couldn’t get past the lies she told her daughter. I don’t know if Shalvis was planning on people feeling sympathy for April, but I never got there. I felt bad for everyone else in the story and loved the writing.

The Family You Make by Jill Shalvis

4 Star

Levi Cutler figures one more run and then head home except a snowstorm traps him and traveling nurse Jane in a gondola. Preparing for the worst he calls and lets his family know he’s running late. When they hear Jane’s voice, they are curious, and he mistakenly says she’s the one. When they are rescued, he begs her to be his pretend girlfriend. She agrees but the longer they spend together the more the feelings are less pretend and more real.

I enjoyed this story. I liked Levi and Jane. Just like all of Jill Shalvis’ other books there are a lot of feels in this book. Levi and Jane have journey to get their happy ending and it was worth the read. Can’t wait for the next book.
