Outfoxed by R.J. Blain

2 Star

Jade is on the run from her family who sold her.  She ended up in Tulsa where Mother Nature is trying to kill everyone.  After several years on the run her past catches up to her and there is a large bounty on her.  The handsome bounty hunter who catches her makes a deal with her.  She can keep running but he will catch her or she can come willing.

There was no world building so there was a lot of confusion over how and why things were the way they were.  Also the book was 356 pages and a felt way longer and took me way longer to finish than other books this length.  The underling story was interesting and I would have liked to see that fleshed out but it wasn’t.  It plodded along and then all of a sudden she’s shot and sent to the east coast where she’s put up on the auction block.  She’s sold into her marriage and that was kind of the end of the story.  There is no conclusion.  It was a huge disappointment.

Second of the Asheville Coven by T.S. Joyce

4 Star

Dawn Reed has been feeding the vampires for a while until Garret doesn’t want her around anymore.  When she is attacked, he loses his mind over her being in danger.  He didn’t want her around to keep her safe but keeping her away didn’t so he will do everything to protect her.

This book was a little jarring to begin with as it felt like it started a couple chapters into the story.  It then was a really good story and I enjoyed it.  I liked seeing more with the group.  It was interesting to see how Garret works through his issues so that he can end up with Dawn.  This was a good addition to the series, and I can’t wait to read where the next book will go.

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author J. Kenner comes a new story in her Stark Ever After series…

My life with Damien has always been magical, and never more so than during the holidays, a time for us to celebrate the hardships we’ve overcome and the incredible gift that is our family. Over the years, he has both protected and cherished me. He has made my life more rich and full than I could ever have imagined.

This year, he’s treating me and our daughters to a holiday in Manhattan. With parades and ice skating, toy displays and candies. And, most of all, with each other.

It’s a wonderful gift, a trip I will always cherish. But this year, I’m the one with the surprise. And I can’t wait to see the look of delight and awe when I finally share my secret with Damien.

But I’m terrified that when danger strikes, it will take a holiday miracle for me to even get the chance.

J. Kenner (aka Julie Kenner) is the New York Times, USA Today, Publishers Weekly, Wall Street Journal and #1 International bestselling author of over one hundred novels, novellas and short stories in a variety of genres.

Though known primarily for her award-winning and international bestselling erotic romances (including the Stark and Most Wanted series) that have reached as high as #2 on the New York Times bestseller list, JK has been writing full time for over a decade in a variety of genres including paranormal and contemporary romance, “chicklit” suspense, urban fantasy, and paranormal mommy lit.

JK has been praised by Publishers Weekly as an author with a “flair for dialogue and eccentric characterizations” and by RT Bookclub for having “cornered the market on sinfully attractive, dominant antiheroes and the women who swoon for them.” A six time finalist for Romance Writers of America’s prestigious RITA award, JK took home the first RITA trophy awarded in the category of erotic romance in 2014 for her novel, Claim Me (book 2 of her Stark Trilogy) and in 2017 for Wicked Dirty in the same category. King of the Asheville Coven by T.S. Joyce

5 Star

Aric Teague, King of the local coven, has had to rehome his whole coven to get away from the Harper’s family.  New job equals growing pains of dealing with new employees not happy to have a vampire on staff.  At a call out for a car accident he rescues Sadey before the car plunges off the cliff.  She is a closet shifter on the run and doesn’t want anyone knowing she’s there.  Aric helps wipe the humans’ memory so they don’t know they saw her.  Will he be able to get past his fears to have a happy ending and keep her safe?

This was a short story spinoff from Harper’s Mountain.  You don’t need to have read the other series to read this one.  There is some mention of that series but nothing that took away from this book.  I enjoyed seeing Aric do good since he was kind of a dick in the other series.  I really liked seeing him care about someone else like he did for Sadey.  It is an insta love story since it is a short story.  Even though it was a short story it didn’t feel like a short story.  It was well written and I didn’t feel it was lacking anything.  Can’t wait for the next book.

Beast by Anna Hackett

5 Star

Vek’Ker was rescued and is now trying to get rid of all the drugs that were pumped through him.  Mia helps calm his rage from the drugs.  When the slavers keep going after Mia the only way to keep her safe and save the other humans is to go after the slavers.

I loved this book.  You felt bad for Vek’Ker because he had been given a crap hand and kept getting more shoved at him.  I loved how much Mia didn’t care about any of it, she just wanted him to be happy and secure.  The flow of the book was good.  There weren’t any slow points in the book.  The only big ish issue I had was I really wanted them to find all the humans already.  It was a good addition to the overall series.
