Her Billionaires by Julia Kent

Her Billionaires (Her Billionaires #1) by [Julia Kent]

3.5 Stars

Laura Michaels has decided to put herself out there after being cheated on.  She matches with a lot of guys looking to hook up until Dylan messages her.  He seems to be a hot firefighter looking for love.  They meet and hook up.  When she wakes up and sees his room covered in pictures of another woman, she jumps to the conclusion he’s taken and blocks him on everything.  She gets a message from another man, Mike, wanting to meet up.  After a couple of dates, they’re getting hot and heavy when Dylan shows up.  Mike and Dylan want a ménage like they had before.  She’s game but then questions everything.  She can forgive as long as that is all the secrets they have.  Yep totally the only secret until one more comes out that they are Billionaires.  She boots them until life happens.  Can they get past all the lies and make a lasting relationship?

I read this book years ago when it first came out and this was how I was introduced to Julia Kent.  They were originally serials that have been combined into one cohesive story.  I liked them then and I like them now.  There is a lot of communication issues throughout the story that becomes frustrating by that last section of the book.  I really liked Laura’s best friend, Josie.  Josie was all about telling it like it is even when her advice isn’t exactly what Laura wanted to hear.  I look forward to reading the next story with Josie.

Behind the Beginning by T.S. Joyce

Behind the Beginning (Becoming the Wolf Book 1) by [T. S. Joyce]

2.5 Stars

Greyson saves a woman in the forest and ends up being turned in to a werewolf.  He struggles with the change until he meets a wolf pack who helps him find ways to live with the wolf.  It helps when Morgan the woman he saved comes back into his life.  He tries not to scare her away but by introducing her to the pack a jealous female wolf changes her against her will.  How will they live with all of these changes?

This hurts me to give such a low review.  I am going to say this was her first book ever published she received the rights back and updated it to release.  You could tell it was the first go round.  There were errors with pacing.  I struggled to read this book and that is saying a lot since I’ve read all of them.  There are 4 more books in the series and I will read them eventually but need a break from them.  This book also doesn’t end with this one.  This storyline continues in book 2-4 which frustrates me so much.  If you want to check out this author try one of her other series because they are so much better.

Real Men Knit by Kwana Jackson

Real Men Knit by [Kwana Jackson]

When Mama Joy died and left her adoptive sons to figure out her craft store.  The youngest son Jesse is a screwup but is the only one who doesn’t want to close the store.  He wants to continue his mother’s legacy.  He thinks the brothers can with the help of the part timer Kerry.  Kerry has loved Jesse forever but doesn’t think they can ever be together.

This wasn’t a romance.  It was more like a fiction novel that throws in a romance.  There is also an information dump in the beginning that made me almost not finish.  It was a lot of information that wasn’t necessarily needed for the story to progress.  I also was not overly invested in their relationship it didn’t really work for me.  The playboy who has always loved her but can’t have her.  It didn’t work.  If he really loved her and wanted her he wouldn’t have continued to sleep around.  I will say that the writing was spot on.  It was well written the story just didn’t work for me.

In too Deep by Skye Jordan

In Too Deep (Wildfire Lake) by [Skye Jordan]

3.5 Stars

Laiyla was always being pulled in different directions.  Her heart wanted to stay in Wildfire Lake with her grandpa and the love life, Levi.  Her parents wanted her to concur the hotel market for them.  It wasn’t until Laiyla, KT, and Chloe nearly die in a tropical storm that Laiyla starts changing.  For their 30 birthday they decide to meet at Laiyla’s grandpa’s property.  She finds it has been severely neglected and needs to be taken care of.  The 3 ladies decide they should team up and create a vacation space.  The one glitch in the plan is running into her ex Levi.  The spark is still there and she will need to decide what she wants out of her life.

I liked this book but got really tired of Laiyla’s indecisive behavior.  I also didn’t like Levi’s ultimatum.  Why couldn’t he take it a day at a time.  He would have 2 years to woo her and show her all the ways they are awesome together.  Instead he pressured her to be all in and then was surprised that the woman who is indecisive and feeling strain from her parents pressuring her can’t make a decision.   Then he gets mad when she doesn’t want to introduce him to her overbearing family and calls it quits on her.  It was frustrating.  Plus he never addressed the towns people being dicks to her.  His sister did but not him.  What I did like was the relationship between Laiyla and her friends.  I want more with them.  The 3 ladies balanced each other.  I liked the writing and interplay of the ladies and will definitely check out their stories.

Darla has to get her sister Becky off the planet.  She gets a job for both of them on a ship as gardeners.  The shuttle they are using to get there is full of humans and one Veslor.  Almost everyone on the shuttle want nothing to do with Veslor so Darla strikes up a conversation with him.  Halfway to their destination the shuttle is attacked and they are taken captive.  The aliens that have taken them demand the women mate with the Veslor so the aliens can have the baby.  Darla volunteers to protect her sister.  Gnaw can’t stand the idea of forcing Darla into anything.  They come to an understanding and even though it started out strange and uncomfortable it grew into being mates.  Once they are rescued they will need to figure out what they are doing.

There was some inconsistency with how mating and babies happen.  In book 1 and 2 they had to be in their warrior form but that doesn’t happen in this book.  They make up an excuse that because he was stressed and would normally shift, he got her pregnant and mated her.  It just didn’t work for me.  I enjoyed the story otherwise.  It was well written.  The scenes between Gnaw and Darla.  I’ll definitely check out the next book.

Slaying Monsters for the Feeble by Annette Marie

Robin and company are back looking for how to release Zylas so he can go home.  Robin is also trying to track her uncle down before the bad guys since he has a book that might help.  She has to do all of this while dealing with an increase of Vampires in the city that need to be taken out.  Robin will need to deal with all of this while keeping her secret.

This is a very weak 3 stars for me.  I found Robin to be very annoying.  She just whined throughout the whole book.  She is so weak and can’t defend herself…oh woe is me I can’t protect myself.  She kept going on about it but never took steps to change that.  Robin also seemed to not understand that Zylas didn’t have the same morals as she does so when he says he would kill someone she threatened not to help him.  This broke trust and she couldn’t understand why he was so mad at her about this.  The other big issue was personality of characters shifted.  In the first book the uncle was a major dick that you hoped would get his comeuppance well in this book he’s a shadow of himself.  He’s all about handing the book over to his niece and just wants to be a family.  Characters can change but you have to explain or show why the shift happened otherwise you confuse your readers.  I was also confused by why Zora was able to threaten Robin with exposer.  The head of the guild knows everything so why not go to him.  Instead they set the next book up to her being monitored by Zora.  It disregards plot points from the first book.  The book also felt like it took forever to get to the point and I struggled with getting through it.  It was a little disappointing since I really liked the first book.  I still will check out the next book since I already bought it but I will wait to see if I like that one to buy the fourth book.
