Securing Jane by Susan Stoker

5 Star

Storm North has scene two of his teams of SEALs find love and though he is old and jaded he wants that.  Jane Hamilton has lusted after him for years but he never saw her until he did.  She spent her life caring for her daughter on her own working in the mailroom.  When she finds a mysteries package Storm finally sees her.  They may finally get their happy ending except for the bomber who isn't too happy that the bomb didn't go off the way they wanted it too.

I really enjoyed this book.  The couple is older and established.  I liked seeing them come together and working through the bombing and melding their lives.  The bomber was interesting and I loved seeing all of the SEAL teams in this book.  Even though it is book 7 you can read it alone if you didn't want to read the entire series.  Definitely a good addition to the series.

Charles is in charge of the pack while his da is away helping Mercy.  When some of the wild and broken wolves are attacked he and Anna need to figure out who is tracking them and trying to take them.  It has to be someone within the pack as they are the only ones who know where these wolves are.  To save them all Anna and Charles will have to find the traitor and take them out before anyone else dies.

Holy shit the ending to this book was a giant surprise.  I can't believe the way this book ended.  I wasn't sure if I liked this book until I realized I was done with it and wanted more.  You got to see another side of pack life with those who are damaged and need to be monitored and can't be with a pack.  The bad guy was a complete and total surprise.  It was not who I expected and can't believe who it was.  It made me rethink every interaction everyone had with this character in every book they were in.  Trying to keep ambiguous to not ruin the surprise of who it was.  Definitely an amazing addition to the series.

Maid for the Beast by Grace Goodwin

4 Star

Braun, Atlan warlord is on earth to participate in a reality show to find his bride.  He is about to go into heat and needs a woman or he will need to be killed.  Instead of finding someone on the show he falls for the maid cleaning his hotel room.  He needs to convince Angela she's his everything.  He might be successful if not for him being deported to his home world for the death of a human.

I enjoyed this story a lot.  Braun is a sweetheart.  But the real winner of the book was Angela's grandfather.  I adored the parts with him in it.  He helps Braun come to grips with some of his issues from his service.  The miscommunication between Braun and Angela was adorable and it fit the book perfectly.  Was a really good addition to the series.

Dead Heat by Patricia Briggs

3.5 Star

Charles wants to spoil Anna and get her some horses.  He takes her to visit an old friend who breeds horses.  This will allow him to get her some amazing horses and say goodbye to an old friend.  They arrive to their kind of issues and Charles is forced to change a woman into a werewolf without her permission.  This sets them on a track to discover who cursed her and stole children.

This book was a little slow for me.  It went in a lot of different directions that in the end made sense but it took a while to get there and the road to the end just was kind of meh for me.  It was interesting to see friends from Charles' past and it was incredible sad how it all worked out.  The writing was spot on it just the plot frustrated me.

Securing Jane, an all-new Seal of Protection: Legacy Series Novella packed with danger and suspense from New York Times bestselling author Susan Stoker and 1,001 Dark Nights is available now!

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Susan Stoker comes a new story in her SEAL of Protection: Legacy Series…

Over the years, Storm North has witnessed two teams of Navy SEALs under his command find true love. He doesn’t expect the same for himself. He’s too old. Too jaded. Too set in his ways. Until a woman who’s been right in front of him for years manages to impress Storm in a way very few women—or men—ever have.

Jane Hamilton knows it’s ridiculous to have a crush on the charismatic and handsome commander. She’s the divorced mother of a twenty-six-year-old daughter. Too old for crushes. Too old for a lot of things. There’s no chance she’ll ever catch the eye of a man like Storm North.

Until someone delivers a bomb to the base.

As the civilian contractor in charge of the mail room, Jane finds herself in the direct line of fire, enduring a series of events that leads to a budding relationship with the very man she’s been longing for. She couldn’t be happier, and Storm feels the same.

The only one unhappy, in fact, is the thwarted bomber. Unhappy enough to do something drastic. Now Storm and Jane have to work together to save innocent sailors—and themselves—from an explosive situation threatening their happily ever after.

**Securing Jane is the 7th book in the SEAL of Protection: Legacy Series and a part of the 1001 Dark Nights collection. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.

**Every 1,001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

Brit has finally been drafted to the big league as a goalie for the Gold Hockey team.  She's used to all the bull of being the only female on a professional team.  What she doesn't anticipate is liking her team and wanting to get way closer to the captain, Stefan.  When some scandalous pictures come to light Brit is blackmailed into a pretend relationship with Stefan.  Two problems with that. One he doesn't know and two she doesn't want it to be pretend.

This is the one time I am glad I started with a later book.  This book was ok.  There were a lot of cliché moments in this book.  What I liked was the main character was a woman playing professional hockey.  She works her ass off to get where she's at and has to deal with a lot of shit to get there.  I liked the chemistry between Brit and Stefan.  I didn't like her lying to him to keep people out of trouble.  If she had just been honest then a lot of the BS wouldn't have happened.  I also didn't like some of the stuff with Stefan's mom.  The way it was written she did something pretty bad ish that affected Stefan his entire life.  Like it wasn't intentional but it was bad and had a lot of consequences and it was just kind of swept under the rug.  It was interesting to read to get the context of the series but not one of the better books in the series.  Start with one of the other ones first.

The FBI has requested the help of the werewolves with a serial killer who has taken a werewolf.  Adam was supposed to go but with Mercy injured he wasn't willing to leave her.  Bran opts for Anna.  If Anna is going so is Charles.  Charles has been struggling with his job as an enforcer and having to put down more wolves who break the rules.  He's pulled back from Anna and she hopes this will pull him out of his self and get him to talk.  Will he be able to get through his issues in time to save Anna from the serial killers?

This was borderline 3.5 and 4.  I loved seeing the struggles Charles was having with being the pack enforcer.  There is one scene that bothered me.  There was a team who went to an island to find the victim who they knew was a rape victim and Charles and Anna had sex on the island.  There was a reason, the spirits on the island were bringing out some of her insecurities and the only way Charles could get through to her was through sex.  I get the reason but it just was kind of eww.  Other than that one part the book was good.  It had a whole lot more Fae and how the government works with the werewolves.  Overall, a good addition to the series.
