What a Dragon Should Know by G.A. Aiken

What A Dragon Should Know (Dragon Kin series) by [G.A. Aiken]

5 Stars

Gwenvael the Handsome irritated Annwyl and is sent off to the north to try and broker an alliance with the Beast.  He is shocked when he finds out the Beast is Dagmar Reinholdt the only daughter to the Reinholdt.  Gwenvael does what he does best and annoys all of them until he can get the information from Dagmar.  However, the only way she will give him the information is if he helps her first.  This starts them on a journey to the south where their lives will be changed forever.

I loved this story so much.  Gwenvael is so cocky but he finds out the information they need in his own way.  I love how he freaked out Dagmar’s family to get her to do what he wanted too.  But the main reason this book was a 5 star read/listen for me was Dagmar herself.  She was just awesome.  She ignored and challenged Gwenvael throughout the book.  I also loved how she saved the day in the end.  There were so many emotional bits in this book that had me laughing and crying it just made the book that much more enjoyable.  Definitely one of the better books by G.A. Aiken.

Dragon Fated by Kara Lockharte and Cassie Alexander

Dragon Fated: A Sexy Urban Fantasy Romance (Prince of the Other Worlds Book 3) by [Kara Lockharte, Cassie Alexander]

3 Stars

We pick up where the last book ends with Andi and Damian together.  Damian gets a visit from his injured sister while Andi is visited by her brother.  Both get life altering news from their siblings.  The question is will it break them up?

This book should have been a 4 star like the other two books.  However, there was a massive cliff hanger at the end.  I HATE cliffhanger endings.  I feel it is laziness on the authors part to continually leave books open ended.  It diminishes my enjoyment of the story to have it end middle of the story so instead of preordering the next book I will pause until the last book in the series is released.  The book itself was really good.  It moved the overall story along nicely.  It was interesting to see the backstory of Damian and Andi.  If it weren’t for the cliff hanger ending.

Dragon Destiny by Kara Lockharte and Cassie Alexander

Dragon Destined: A Sexy Urban Fantasy Romance (Prince of the Other Worlds Book 2) by [Kara Lockharte, Cassie Alexander]

4 Stars

Andi Ngo is back and trying to decide if it was a good idea to walk away from her dragon.  When she gets a strange phone call from her brother begging for her help she tries and put Damian out of her mind.  She has to go back into a world she didn’t want to be in to track the brother down.  When their worlds collide again they realize they should be together and they will find a way to make it work.

I enjoyed this story.  It was well paced and there weren’t any lags in the story.  It doesn’t end end but it wraps up some strings from the first book and opens up new issues for them to resolve.  It is an interesting take on shifters and other worlds.

A Chip on her Shoulder by R.J. Blain

A Chip on Her Shoulder: A Magical Romantic Comedy (with a body count) by [R.J. Blain]

3 Stars

Darlene watches as her brother is transformed into a chipmunk by the mafia over his debt.  She will need to come up with the money her brother is owed or there will be consequences.  When they are left alone by the mafia she goes to the police for help.  When an archangel informs her the only person who can help is Lucifer she is determined to get his help no matter what even if that means taking over Hell to get it.  Lucifer has never met someone who isn’t terrified of him and Darlene keeps telling him no.  He is perplexed and can’t figure out what to do with her.  She won’t bargain and he can’t seem to stay away.  He will have to use his best negotiating skills to get what he wants.

Even though this is book 15 it is a prequel to book five.  The contents of this story leads into Whatever for Hire.  I loved Whatever for Hire (review coming soon).  If you haven’t read Whatever for Hire or any of the other books in the series you can pick this one up and understand what is going on.  This book started off so promising and then about a quarter of the way through it lagged and then finally picked up again for the last quarter.  It seems like the book got bogged down with being cutesy.  The Devil is obsessed with Darlene’s spots and he must pet them and lick them and whatever with them.  It got old really fast and there are pages and pages of them discussing Lucifer’s privilege’s with Darlene’s spots.  There is only so many times I can take having Darlene explain she’s taking over hell for however long she needs it and Lucifer will receive the privilege of using her spots.  Also I finished the book last night and I can’t remember what happened to the bad guy.  Did Darlene get her revenge?  We literally go from her being poisoned by the bad guy and being told exactly what is going to happen to her talking with Lucifer’s father about what is to come for them as a couple.  Nothing is really said about how she was healed or what happened to the mafia people who caused all the drama.  The book is this close to being an awesome book like some of her other’s I’ve like but it doesn’t quite get there.

About a Dragon by G.A. Aiken

About a Dragon (Dragon Kin Book 2) by [G.A. Aiken]

3.5 Stars

Nolwenn witch Talaith was taken right after she had given birth, separated from her daughter, and given to a man to serve a god.  Not her god but another.  She will be trained to kill someone in the future when the god has decided she is needed.  What the god didn’t factor in was the villagers wanting to burn her at the stake and a dragon taking an interest in her.  Briac the Mighty figured she would be all lovey dovey for him since he rescued her.  Instead what he gets is someone who argues and fights with him all day and night.  He’s not sure if this is bad.  They will need to work together to keep the kingdoms safe and reunite Talaith with her daughter.

I didn’t like this book as much as the last one.  Part of it comes down to the fact the two main characters like to argue about everything and for me it got old fast.  I liked how it intersected with the previous book and builds onto Dragon Actually.  They also set up the next book nicely.  This book also had some pacing issues where I was wanting it to move on already.  It wasn’t a bad book just kind of a let down from the last book that was so awesome.

Hollie Jackson did an amazing job bring to life the new characters while stay true the characters from the last book.

Tamed by Alison Aimes

Tamed: A Prison Planet Romance (The Condemned Series Book 4) by [Alison Aimes]

3.5 Stars

Content Warning.  This book is a dark romance and there is content that may be hard for some views.  There are scenes of rape and the way the hero and heroine get together may be problematic for some people.

Warrior Grif McIntyre is a brutal man.  He was raised by the worst of the worst and was sent to the prison planet.  There he met up with a group of men who want to clean it up enough that they can lead somewhat peaceful lives.  When one of the men goes missing, he goes into enemy territory to extract him from danger.  While there he finds a mysterious woman who he tries to rescue instead she leads him to be captured.  After he escapes, he is determined to track her down and find out who she is and what she knows no matter what he has to do to get the answers.  When he finds her, he uses his very unique interrogation skills to find the answers he is looking for.

There were some parts of the book that were hard to read but it was understandable as to the nature of the story.  For the most part it was a good book to read.  The pacing was good.  The character development was also spot on.  The biggest thing about the book was the content and it was difficult at times.  It is part of a series and I haven’t read the rest of them but I didn’t feel I was missing anything by not read books 1-3.  There was also a short story you could get if you sign up for her newsletter that continues the couples’ story and it was a nice addition to this story.
