Choose the Bear by Sam Hall

4 Stars

I met a man and a bear in the woods, and I chose the bear.

Not just one either, but three hot bear shifters.

No sooner had I escaped my awful ex when a creepy stranger advances on me in the woods. I’m alone, exposed, vulnerable… until three massive men come charging out of nowhere to save me.

And when the creepy stranger turns scary stalker, they insist on sticking around to offer their protection.

It feels too good to be true, having them appear just when I needed them and having them offer everything I’ve always wanted. So I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop. For these three men to reveal themselves to be monsters as well.

But what if the scariest thought of all is one day losing them? What if I didn’t get to choose the bears, because they’ve already chosen me?

This was an interesting take on Man vs bear and I am all for it. Imogen was in an abusive relationship but he wasn’t the actual bad guy in this book. Which was all sorts of weird. We don’t get much with him after the first couple of chapters. There were a couple of things I wanted fleshed out more but overall it was a good story and I liked how the bad guy was handled.

Cross the Bear by Sam Hall

4 Stars

When your boyfriend is a dud, but his brother and his pack are your perfect match…

“You’re our fated mate,” Bjorn tells me.

It’s every woman’s fantasy, isn’t it? To hear a big, tattooed bear shifter tell you that you’re the only one for him and his sleuth.

So why aren’t I falling all over myself to accept the bond?

Sounds great, but I’m not ready to be anyone’s girlfriend, mate, anything. My selfish ex left me hurt, exhausted, and burned out. I just want to have a little fun for once—not hook up with his hot brothers.

Rather than take “no” for an answer, these sexy shifters offer me a proposal.

If I surrender control to them, they’ll give me all the pleasure I crave.

Take me places I’d never dare go.

Fix my life, my heart… even my trust issues.

No strings attached, of course.

But if there are no strings, how do they keep pulling me closer and closer?

And what will happen when I no longer want to back away?

I’m about to find out whether this is a match made in heaven, or this relationship is another cross to bear.

I think this is my favorite of the series. Maddie breaks up with a dick who wasn’t her fated mates only to find out he knew she was fated to his brother and his sleuth. I loved seeing her realize this and working through everything to get to her HEA. I loved the guys she ends up with. They are perfect for her in so many ways. I wanted the MMC mother to get more of a comeuppance for everything she did to try and keep FMC and MMC apart. The story flowed nicely and I just enjoyed it a lot.

Messing with my Brother’s Best Friend by Sam Hall

3 Stars

It was a decision made from one part desperation and one part need for revenge… I moved into their house, but they quickly moved into my mind every waking minute of every freaking day. Because they’re different than I remember:

Van was always the golden boy with the cheeky smile. Now that smile has a hungry edge that is saved just for me.

Gage was always tall and silent, but he’s a wall of hard muscle now and part of me wants to find out exactly how big.

And Connor? With those dimples and that cocky attitude, he’s got trouble written all over him.

Well, it turns out the joke’s on me.

I might be the one engaging in juvenile pranks this time, but these three guys are determined to play the biggest prank of all.

To get me back—in their life, in their bed, in their hearts.

The guys were such dicks to Kendall while she was growing up. They did sort of make it up to her when they end up together. I did have questions as to why Kendall’s family wasn’t helping her at all. She was just left on her own and it was never really explained why they didn’t help her. Overall, it was a fine read.

Hearts of Stone by Sam Hall

4 Stars

These four gargoyles tell me I’m their fated mate.

That they’re sworn to protect me.

That they’ll do anything to keep me safe.

And if I agree to become theirs?

They’ll spend every night anticipating my every wish and making sure every single one of them come true.

Including the ones I don’t dare admit, even to myself.

But if the gargoyles can perform miracles for me, they can do that for others,

And that puts a target on all of our backs.

People have been trying to harness the power of the gargoyles for centuries,

And now that I’ve awakened them, our enemies won’t stop until all of us fall under their control.

I really enjoyed this one but was left wanting more at the end of the book. It felt unfinished. I want more in this world and more with the gargoyles. Plus all the magical beings need their due. I also figured out the bad guy well before the ending but it was still a good read to get to the end.

More Than I can Bear by Sam Hall

3 Stars

Reading the novella, Poke The Bear, is essential to understanding the storyline.

The hottest footballer in town is searching for the girl that got away. Me. We had one amazing night together, but when I woke up I knew I needed to get back to my boring life. But he refuses to take no for an answer. The whole city is looking for the girl with the custom painted Converse. But I’ve got other problems. The guy who keeps coming into my cafe, who’s as grumpy as he is hot. Or the quiet guy who lurks in the corner, then leaves drawings for me to find. I was the girl that everyone ignored, but each one of these guys are going to shove me into the spotlight. And I’m not sure if any of us are going to survive that scrutiny.

It was an ok read but I felt it was way too long. The stuff with Adam was overplayed and it frustrated me. I also didn’t feel the connection between Freya, Kaine, and Adam. River did get to know her and there was a connection. The other two were just kind of we’re fated so we are together. It was just fine.

Poke the Bear by Sam Hall

3 Stars

I’ve always been invisible. People just look at me and then away. Or worse, their eyes glaze over. Everyone but him. Adam Farrelly is the top football player in the state. Every girl in the club is dying to catch his eye. But all he seems to see is me. He offers me everything I’ve ever wanted and for just one night, I’m going to say yes. After I can go back to my boring life. But apparently that is more than Adam can bear…

This is a nice intro to some characters but in no way is it a complete story. It feels like a prolog to a story and not even a short story. I am interested in seeing how Freya, Adam, River, and Kaine get their HEA in the next book.

Good Girl by Sam Hall

2 stars

Cyn has been raised in a society where certain women need to be taken care of by their men. Omega’s must attend soirees to find their alphas. When they are not attending them, they are training to be stronger. Cyn hates all of this. She wants to live her best life and not be ruled by anyone. When she meets a group of men will she find a way to live her best life?

I wanted to like this book but didn’t. Cyn was used and abused by those who are supposed to take care of her, and they never really make it up. I also felt there needed to be more background. I ended up skimming to see if it got better and got to the end and it never got better. I’ll skip anything else.
