Lord of Rain by Charlene Hartnady

2 Star

Bolt is the son of Zeus, and he is very similar to his father. He’s driven and ruthless. Since he’s been broken and can’t forget a ghost, he’s pushed everyone away. She wove a magic spell and captured him against his will now he’s dealing with the fallout of her death. After losing his administrative assistant he’s desperate for someone who can keep up with him. What he gets is Ashley. She has no experience working in an office and is learning as she goes but she intrigues him, and he can’t stop thinking about her. Ashley is just trying to make money to save her family’s bakery but what she gets is the adventure of a lifetime.

I loved the other books in the series and this one just sucked. I didn’t like Bolt or Ashley. Bolt has rubbed me wrong in previous books and this one doesn’t redeem him in my eyes. I also felt Ashley was a character the author couldn’t decide what she was going to be. One moment she’s the strong character and the next she was wishy washy. I found myself skimming to get through the book. I had been reading these back-to-back and this one put a stop to me reading them. I also noticed that the books all follow the same formula. Boy meets girl and he just can’t be with her because of the pact so let’s fight our feelings and then wait I love her and can’t live without her. It got old

Lord of Life by Charlene Hartnady

2.5 Star

Lyre relies on his gift to heal others but now that it’s gone, he’s unsure what he will do particularly since two of his sisters-in-law are pregnant. When he finds out someone is following him, he’s determined to figure out who she is and what she wants. Morgan knows all about the different creatures. When she’s betrayed by someone, she thought she could trust she will track down anyone who could help locate her. She finds Lyre who’s a victim too. Will they team up and take out a mutual enemy?

This author seems to have a plan on how her books will go and she will follow that. This may work when your books come out months/years later but doesn’t work if someone is binging your books. If they are reading each book back-to-back you will see the same trends. In addition to this issue, we also have two main characters who were cocky and it was hard to like them. Overall, we still don’t have any world building and interest in the series is waning.

Little Lords by Charlene Hartnady

3 Star

Forge and Ava are expecting a baby and they’re not sure how that is going to work with there mixed genes. Night and Shannon find out they are expecting, and Shannon tries to reconnect with her parents but finds out that it was a mistake to try.

This is a hodgepodge of a story. It’s not really a cohesive story but more snap shots of things going on in the first two couples. It was interesting to see, and I enjoyed it. It did add to the overall picture of the relationships and shows how close the “brothers” are.

Lord of Hell by Charlene Hartnady

3 Star

Shannon blames herself for the death of someone while she drove drunk. No matter what her therapist says she feels she should be punished. Night is sent to bring her to hell by his father and he’s not sure she deserves to go to hell. He’s slowly falling for her but knows her time is coming.

I did not like this one as much as the last one. It was a similar plot as the last one and the back and forth between Shannon and Night just got old. It was still a good book and I enjoyed it. We still haven’t gotten the world building I wanted, and they added to me wanting more information for Night’s brother. Still enjoyed enough to continue the series.

Lord of Fire by Charlene Hartnady

4 Star

Ava’s brother just killed himself and she finds out he was working for her boss. The boss doesn’t care that the debt was her brother’s he expects her to fulfill the agreement. He is willing to settle for a night with her. Ava agrees to track down what went missing but instead runs. Every time she thinks she’s safe he shows up to try and capture her. When her car breaks down outside a car shop, she begs the owner, Forge, for help. As a dragon demigod Forge ignores humans and wants nothing to do with her until her boss assaults her outside his shop and disappears. Now he will figure out who the boss is and why he’s after Ava all without falling for her.

I enjoyed this story. It was new and different take on dragon shifter story. Ava has her own secrets that are revealed in the story. I loved the interplay between Forge and his “brothers”. I did want more world building and to know how the dragon demigods all came about. Overall, it was a good start to a new series.
