Persephone by Alessa Thorn

4 Stars

Life in Styx is finally stable for Persephone and Hades. The city is safe, and their re-established friendship with the Egyptian Gods brings a welcomed calm—until the meddling Fates disrupt their peace with an unexpected gift: a baby.

As if the idea of motherhood isn't daunting enough, a mysterious voice beckons Persephone to an enigmatic island on the Nile. Ever drawn to adventure and somewhat avoiding a challenging conversation with Hades, Persephone embarks on a quest to find the source of the voice…and finds a whole lot more than she could ever dream of.

Loved this short story. It was nice to see all my favorite back and to see what happens after the HEA when things change. Can’t wait to see where this new series goes.

Dance of the Forest King by Alessa Thorn

3 Stars

King Oberon, Taranis, and Mananan were separated from their kin for many years and are now on earth with their nephews. They are here to stop the worlds from being destroyed. If they don’t stop it there will be no more magic. Oberon figures he will have to sacrifice himself to save those he loves until he meets his fated mate. Chrissy is not someone he was expecting and he doesn’t know why she’s always mad at him but he will do anything to keep her safe.

It was an ok read. It felt rushed for most of the book. The romance was nice but also rushed. This is book one in a new series, but it is a spin-off of another one and you do need to read that one to understand this one. They are referenced and it’s been a while since I read the original series and it led to some confusion. Overall, this book left me wanting more. It was ok and there are two more books that I will probably get to eventually.

Darkest Night by Alessa Thorn

3 Star

Athena Edgeworth is not someone you want to cross. She was found as a child covered in blood in the forest and was raised to be a ruthless mercenary. When she is seduced by ex-assassin, Kon so he could steal a magical manuscript she is determined to get him back and then some. She steals one too many relics out from under him that Kon’s boss decides to take them both out. They will have to work together to get out of it alive.

This book started off so slowly for me. It did pick up and I ended up falling into the story and loved Athena and Kon. I also felt like we started a couple chapters into the story which might have been why the story was slow. I kept trying to figure out what was going on. Once I sorted everything I enjoyed the story and seeing how Athena and Kon get their HEA. I loved Alessa Thorn’s writing so I will be checking out book 2.

God Touched by Alessa Thorn

4 Star

Imogen is a hunter. She's used to dealing with death everyday so when they need Arawan the God of Death she doesn't have an issue talking him into helping. The only problem is that he, embodies everything she craves, death, sex, and violence. Will she be able to ignore his draw?

I enjoyed this one a lot. The writing was just as good as all the other books in this World and you get a bit of all the other couples. Both of these characters are very big personality and the compliment each other. I am very interested on where the author is going with this series and can't wait for the next one.

Trash and Treasure by Alessa Thorn

4 Star

Charlotte wants to go and study with legendary Fae mages but needs her brother-in-Law to approve it for her. To get this approval she needs to track down Aneirin with Reeve who she has a history with and wants nothing to do with. He broke her heart and she holds a grudge. Reeve is happy to be working with her as he's missed her and wants to know what he did to sever their budding relationship. They are going to have to work together to find and take out Aneirin before he lets out the other two generals.

This one took a hot minute for me to get into it but once I was into the story, I loved it. It was just a slow start. I loved seeing them all working together and seeing characters from previous books. The conflict between Reeve and Charlotte was interesting and I liked what separated them previously. Looking forward to the next one.

Anubis by Alessa Thorn

4 Star

Anubis has been lost forever. He’s finally been found but still can’t go home as he is still missing apart of himself. He asks Tahirah for help locating his missing piece. She thinks she’s just helping another rich man who knows nothing and is surprised when he’s not. Will they discover Anubis’ missing part?

I loved seeing Anubis and Tahirah’s relationship develop. I very much want Anubis and Tahirah to take her nephew away as her sister never redeems herself. This wasn’t my favorite in the series, but it was good. It fit within the rest of the series. I’m hoping there are more books in the series.

Wings of the Night Prince by Alissa Thorn

3 star

Killian knows his time is nearly up.  Either his curse is going to kill him or Morrigan is.  He will help her get out of fairy since she helped rescue him.  Neither is prepared for the mating bond that connects them.  They will have to navigate her family’s hate of Killian and the coming war.  Will they be successful?

This one wasn’t as good as the other two books.  It started slow and the timeline was a bit weird, and I am still unsure how long Killian was held.  I really liked Killian and wanted to see him find someone.  I loved Morrigan with him and the fact that she fought him every step of the way.  Her family frustrated me.  Overall, I enjoyed the book and the characters but it wasn’t as good as the other two books.

Heart of the Winter Prince by Alessa Thorn

3 Star

Bayn is slowly dying from ice in his veins that’s closing in on his heart.  He’s ready to be done.  When his new sister-in-law calls and asks for a favor that will help him survive, he begrudgingly agrees to meet a woman who can track an artifact.  Freya is only helping this jackass because her cousin asked her too.  She is tired of pushy jackasses after her last boyfriend.  When her ex makes an appearance and wants Bayn to add to a collection of magical slaves will she be able to keep him safe while protecting her heart.

Bayn was a massive asshole you love to hate.  He had his reasons, and you want to help make him better.  Freya has every reason to hate men and I really liked her.  She was strong and wasn’t willing to put up with anything from anyone.  When they finally came together it was awesome.  I liked how it all worked itself out.  The ending was quite the surprise.

Thoth by Alessa Thorn

4 Star

Thoth has agreed to help his friend Set on a mission but first he needs to track down a girl who stole from him 13 years ago.  She has his book, and he needs it back.  When he finds Kema he discovers she’s been reading from the book and release monsters into the world.  Since she’s responsible she can clean up the mess AND help track down information for Set.

I loved this book.  It helped progress the story started with Set’s book.  I also loved the cranky Thoth and Kema who just loved needling him.  I also like the crossover with Hermes and finding out what Kema’s history was.  When I finished the book the only question I had was why is the next book not out?

Set by Alessa Thorn

3 Star

Set is hiding in plain sight.  He isn’t interested in being known as a God like all the Greeks.  When his employer asks him to rescue his daughter from a rival gang he agrees to go and get her.  Ayla doesn’t know who her dad is or why these men are coming after her but if Set wants to keep her safe, she will trust him.  When she finds out he is really Set and not just someone named after him will she be able to handle it?  Will Set be able to keep her safe from those who want to use her?

I enjoyed this book.  I liked that Ayla couldn’t care less about who Set was and gave him so much shit.  She made him work for it.  It was also interesting to read about the Egyptian gods.  Really good edition to the Court of the Underworld/start of a new series.

Kiss of the Blood Prince by Alessa Thorn

3 Star

15 hundred years ago Prince Kian and the rest of the fae were betrayed.  They are back and want revenge.  While the war has begun Prince Kian finds Elise and he can’t bring himself to kill her, so he takes her.  He lusts for her blood and for her.  Will she be able to break the curse he’s under and save him and the rest of the fae?

This book started off so incredibly slow as the author built the world.  It was worth it in the end, but it took a while to get into the book.  I enjoyed how resilient Elise was and how even though she was kidnapped and held against her will she still gave as good as she got.  Ultimately it was a good start to a series.

Charon by Alessa Thorn

3 Star

Charon is asked by Thanatos to track down Circe, Hecate’s niece.  Finding the cursed island, she’s on is hard but the harder part will be to convince her he’s there to help her and not hurt her.  They need her skills to find and save Medea but will those skills scare Charon off?

Circe is another one of those myths where she got the short end of the stick in myths and this one gives her a happy ending which made me happy.  I really enjoyed getting to know her in this book and seeing her work with Charon and the others to track down Pithos et al.  I loved that when she revealed her true self Charon was more concerned about her than the fact, he should probably fear her.  I enjoyed this book a lot and can’t wait to see what happens in the “last” book.

Thanatos by Alessa Thorn

3 Star

Thanatos is having nightmares about Hecate.  He needs to find her and save her like she once helped him.  When they finally track her down, she is in a deep sleep.  They are able to wake her with the help of Selene.  Hecate is now stuck in a world she doesn’t understand and is unsure if she is willing to train another student as her other two were cursed.  When they are finally able to track down Pandora they discover the true treachery.  Will they be able to handle the coming war?

I’ve always been a huge fan of Thanatos as the Titan of Death is incredibly interesting.  Several books in I realized why I like these so much.  I love mythology and these books do a good job blending the myths we know with new paths for the characters.  I loved see Thanatos and Hecate taking on Pithos.  As well as them finding their happy.  The nice thing about these books is the more you read the more you learn about what is going on.  One of my biggest issues with the first couple is you don’t know exactly what all is going on, but you get more of the picture the more you read.  Well worth the time for a quick light read.

Hades by Alessa Thorn

3 Star

Hades is tired of being on the defensive with Pithos and wants to take the fight to them.  When a money trail leads to an ally Demeter, Queen of Athens he decides to take her daughter to see if he can get the answers he’s looking for.  The problem is Persephone is the mystery woman he’s been looking for and he doesn’t want to torture her he just wants her.  When he discovers her magic, he is even more invested in helping her no matter what.

Everyone knows the myth about Hades and Persephone, and this is a nice twist on that.  I really liked seeing Persephone coming into her own and giving Hades a run for his money.  We do finally get more information on Pithos in this book.  These books aren’t the best books, but they are well written and a good guilty pleasure.  Definitely picking up the next book.

Medusa by Alessa Thorn

3 Star

Perseus is trying to go legit when his sister is taken, and he is ordered to steal from media giant Medusa.  They want him to steal something from her and give it to them.  Once he does his sister will be released.  He wasn’t planning on running into Medusa when he stole from her or walking in on her in a compromising situation.  He promises to make it up to her.  Medusa is incredibly mad and embarrassed that she was walking in on and stolen from and tracks the thief down.  When she does, she decides she’s going to keep the thief until she’s satisfied.

I enjoyed the story.  It was super cute, and I liked both Perseus and Medusa.  The story somewhat sticks with the mythos about Medusa who in my opinion gets a bum rap for being the bad guy.  It was interesting to see how they worked out the best way to rescue his sister.  The only real issue was the ending was kind of anticlimactic and didn’t really interest me.  I am really enjoying the series so far and can’t wait to read the next one.

Asterion by Alessa Thorn

3 Stars

Asterion owns and operates the Labyrinth where deals are made and fights are fought.  His word is law and whatever he wants he gets.  Ariadne is hired to take him out.  As an assassin she's never had a problem taking out a mark until Asterion.  There's something about him that just works for her.  She'll still try and take him out has the price is too good to pass up.  When she isn't successful will she be able to work with him to take out those who want him dead?

This one started out incredibly slow.  It did pick up and once it did I loved the story.  It is one of the subjects that I love reading.  Gods/myth books are some of the best and this one hit all the notes.  I very much wanted there to be a happy ending for both Ariadne and Asterion.  By the end of the book I wanted to read the next one and was very happy to find out there were several more books in the series to read.

Hermes by Alessa Thorn

3 Star

Hermes has been rescued but he can’t remember a lot of things.  The only time he has clarity is when Selene is around.  He is attracted to her, but she isn’t interested.  She’s paying off a debt to Hades and even though she is attracted to him it is unethical to be with him.

I am finding this series to be a light quick read with aspects of the mythos the characters are named after and apparently this is what I am in the mood to read.  We’ve met Selene before, and it was interesting to get her backstory in this book.  I really liked the very arrogant obnoxious Hermes.  Even though you don’t think these two would work they do and I enjoyed this quick read.
