Falls Like Rain by Reese Rivers

3.5 Stars

When she left, they fell apart. Now she's back and it's her turn to Fall.

I married my three best friends when I was ten, ran from them and everything I knew at eighteen to save one of them and now I’m back at twenty-eight with no idea of who I am as a woman or what I want my future to look like. All I really know is, if I’m going to Fall, it’s going to be for ME

She was our everything, our future, but she ran away, broke us and left us in pieces for ten long years. Now she’s back and no matter how hard she tries to keep her distance and her secrets from us, we’ll do whatever it takes to find out the truth and then make her fall just as hard as we did.

This was such a good premise and I wanted to love it but the guys were fucking stupid. Rain leaves when she and the guy’s are threatened. She does it for them but they never question why she left, just judged her. When she comes back after her dad dies and the guys are dicks to her until they find out the truth. She makes her life better and chooses herself over everyone else. Which she’s never done before. The guys do end up groveling a bit and it was good. I just wanted a bit more.

Love and Tequila Makes Her Crazy by Brittanee Nicole

3 Stars

Nate Pearson was my first everything.

My first friend, first love, and first heartbreak. Now he's just my ex-husband.

It’s been three years. It’s time to let go of the past. When a man covered in tattoos walks into the bar where I work, with a guitar case slung over his back and a determined swagger, I think I’m finally ready to move on…until I see his guitar. I’d recognize it anywhere. It was the last gift Nate ever received from his father.

The man holding the guitar is different than the one I left behind in Nashville, but one thing remains the same, Nate Pearson will always be the love of my life.

The reasons why I asked for a divorce haven't changed. Only problem is, Nate Pearson says he still loves me, and this time he's playing for keeps.

I enjoyed this second chance romance. I felt Amelia got the short end of this story. Everyone is pushing her to forgive Nate and that she’s the only one who can save Nate. That is not her job at all but everyone makes it her job. With the flashbacks to their childhood it slows the book down. They weren’t necessary. I started skipping them. Once everything comes out Nate doesn’t do anything to fix the problem but it was still interesting to read.

One Last Shot by Julia Connors

2 Stars

She thought he would always be there for her until he abandoned her. Fourteen years later he’s back and saying we’re married, and he needs her help adopting his niece. When she accidentally screws up the childcare, he has set up she opts to stay and help. Will she want to leave when everything is settled?

I get the idea of this and it’s an interesting concept, but it’s poorly implemented. Things are alluded to but never said. The only character I enjoyed was the niece. Beyond the story issues there were errors in the book that needed to be fixed. Including trimming it down a bit. There is a trigger warning about harm to a child and if this is an issue for you skip this one.

Bitter Notes and Sweet Strings by Aly Beck

2 Stars

River West was just trying to get through high school and get out of town. She wasn’t expecting to meet Kieran, Cal, Ash, and Rad. She thought they wanted her, but they just wanted her connections and as soon as they have what they want they’re gone. Years later they need her to keep their musical career. This is their second chance at a happily ever after. Will they take it?

Duet that I am reviewing together as it should have been one freaking book. It makes zero sense to be two books. Both books are too long and drawn out. The guys are assholes throughout and never get better. Assholes who redeem themselves awesome but men who never change suck. River has zero respect for herself or her daughter. The guys never make up for being dicks to her and leaving her behind. River barely makes them work for it. All is forgiven because she lusts after them too much to walk away. Meh. I’ll pass on any future books.

Queen of Vengeance by Poppy Jacobson

4 Stars

I was hoping for my fairytale ending with my prom king boyfriend. Only it turned out he had other plans with his buddies. They took something I never intended for them to have. I’ve finally able to get out of my nightmare 10 years later and get the revenge I am owed. An unmarked grave in the backyard isn’t enough and all of the men need to pay for what they did to me. The only thing that is in my way is two childhood friends who abandoned me when I needed them the most. Will they be there for me now?

If you are like me and like seeing people get what they deserve this is the book for you. It is very dark and FMC is very much out for revenge against those who SA her in high school. After reading the story I was left with some questions like why did her parents make her marry the guy? I know why she stayed but not how she ended up forced into marriage. I did love how everything was handled with her guys and the trauma she was still working through. Definitely pick up if you are in a rage against men time.

Return to Us by Corinne Michaels

4 Star

At eighteen I walked away from Willow Creek Valley planning on never returning. It cost me the love of my life Grayson Parkerson. It’s now fourteen years later and I’m back in town licking my wounds. Now he’s a single dad to a little girl. Working at The Park Inn gives us the chance to reconnect. I want to be all in but is Grayson?

This book has all the feelings. It gets you right in the heart and keeps going. Jessica has her reasons for leaving when she was eighteen and Grayson holds it against her. He screws up and walks away which is the drama in the book. This part frustrated me and I wanted to smack him upside the head several times but it all works out in the end and it was an enjoyable read.
