The Marked by Eve Langlais

1.5 Star

Those that are marked are taken away to somewhere else never to be seen again. When marks appear on Jasinda she is taken to the consulate for processing. Now expected to live a different life Jasinda is confused with what she needs to do and who to trust. Does she trust the Commander or someone from her past?

I’ve never hated a book by this author and this one made me incredibly mad. I wish I hadn’t read it and it caused me to take a break from the author. I think my biggest issue was Jasinda knew nothing. She was raised ignorant and when someone she thought she could trust asked for her help she gave it. This went against the man she loved and he was willing to throw her away because how dare she…do something she thought was right because you were keeping secrets. I just couldn’t get past how he treated her.

Cursed Yuletide by Eve Langlais

3 Star

Anders left the woman he loved to join the King’s army and he never returned. Alva promised to wait for him, and she did for several years until she gave up hope. When the witch in the woods asks for her help will she discover all the secrets?

I wanted to like this more than I did. It’s a book based off little red riding hood and possibly Rapunzel and at least one other I can’t think of. There was no world building, and we are thrown into the story. I really didn’t care for FMC. Years of her love being gone, and she never even thought to search for him. Instead, she feels it’s appropriate to start a relationship with her loves BFF who LEFT with him. It irritated me. I did like Langlais’ writing so a 3 it is.

Dear Satan by Eve Langlais

4 Star

Mary’s dyslexia sends her Christmas letter to Satan instead of Santa. It may have been intended for Santa, but Satan will make all her dreams come true even if it’s not what she asked for. Satan sends Marduke to help Mary. Will Satan’s matchmaking workout?

I loved this book. I was amused by Satan pissing off St Nick by stealing his mail. Satan does his matchmaking bit and that always amuses me. My biggest issue was Merry was incredible passive and that never really changes. Overall, it was good addition to the series. You don’t need to have read the previous books but as always it does help.

Knocking on Helen's Door by Eve Langlais

4 Star

As an angel Helen has been told certain things. When she discovers they may be lies told to keep the female angels in line she is very confused. Then when one of the male angels tries to kill her, she ends up being saved by an agent from Hell. She has questions and she hopes Julio can answer them. He doesn’t believe love is in the cards for him until one inquisitive angel.

I loved this one. It is right on track with the Welcome to Hell series and makes me want to go back and read all of those over again. I also want to know what is going on with Gaia. I have to wait, and I don’t have any patience for that. The writing was good, and the story was better. I loved how the book ends.  I think this was the best book in the series so far.

Contempt of Kourtney by Eve Langlais

3 Star

Kourtney is hired by Grim Dating for any and all legal needs they may have. She doesn’t think her first case will be about an employee who allegedly murdered someone. When the court orders Kourtney and Dwayne to always remain together she is not happy.  She also thinks Dwayne is a smidge delusional as he acts like hell and the devil are real. How will she act when she finds out he isn’t delusional?

I enjoyed this book way more than other books in the series so far. I liked seeing Kourtney give Dwayne so much shit and not willing to take any of his guff. There were a lot of amusing parts of the book too which is one of the many reasons I read Eve Langlais. It was a good solid book and reminds me of why I read all of her books.

Sweeping Ashley by Eve Langlais

2 Star

Ashley made a deal with the devil and he's calling in the marker for some demon babies.  Using the Grim Dating Agency she needs to find someone to provide the sperm for her future baby.  The problem, she is very particular and no one is meeting her expectations.  Derrick is called into see what the problem is.  What he finds is a woman who is too anal for her own good.  He also finds he likes needling her.  Maybe he could be her baby daddy?

I wanted to like this book.  There were moments that were very funny and I loved those parts.  However, there is one part of the book at the end that I have a hard time with.  It has to do with consent and I have a hard time wanting to read a book that takes away consent.  You don't need to read any other books in the series or the original series to read this one but it also isn't one of my favorite books.

Bunny and Bear by Eve Langlais

Bunny And The Bear (Furry United Coalition Book 1) by [Eve Langlais]

3 Stars

Bears and bunnies don’t mix but when you throw in shifters anything can happen.  Miranda, bunny shifter, is assigned to watch to watch cranky bear Chase.  What she doesn’t expect is to be drawn to him.  He doesn’t think bunnies and bears should mix so tries to do everything he can to stay away from her.  It would help if every time he turned around she wasn’t there smelling so good.  When evil comes for him she will do everything in her power to save him and claim him.

To start with this book was so very funny.  I loved the humor in it a lot. What I got tired of was the innuendoes all the time.  Overall the humor is what made the book.  Not the sex scenes or necessarily the plot which it was lite on it was the humor.  If you aren’t offended by a lot and I mean a lot of graphic sex check this book out for the humor because the rest of the series is even better.

Audio Book

Abby Craden did a really good job narrating the book.  She gave each character a distinct voice.  I loved her voice for the bad guy.

Halfway There by Eve Langlais

Halfway There: A Paranormal Women's Fiction Novel (Midlife Mulligan Book 1) by [Eve Langlais]

2 Stars

Naomi’s husband drops a bomb that he wants a divorce and that she’s let herself go.  She thought her marriage was fine until this moment.  She’s starting over and hopes her BFF and her kids will finally be able to have a relationship with her.

If this had been my first book of Eve Langlais I would not continue reading her books.  It is missing so much.  The pacing was off.  It was slow slow slow and then the ending was rushed.  I also didn’t like Naomi.  She was so freaking dense.  Like magic was right in front of her and she is still denying it.  This got old really fast.  Her self-doubt was also very grating to read throughout the book.  I did like her interactions with her daughter.  Overall if you are checking out Ms. Langlais for the first time I have other books from her that are way better.

Jane Davey’s Locket by Eve Langlais

Jane Davey's Locket: A Hell Cruise Adventure (Welcome to Hell Book 8)

4 Stars

Jane’s crazy grandma stole her locket and cast an enormously powerful love spell on it to track a mate down for Jane whether she likes it or not.  This spell leads them to a magical cruise where her locket keeps jumping from man to man.  This frustrates Jane to no end plus Oz just won’t leave her alone and insists on helping her.

I liked this book.  It was funny and a quick read.  There were some pacing issues towards the end of the book.  It was pretty steady throughout the book and then it just seemed to rush through to the end.  The romance was a bit insta love but one of them is a shifter and so it is expected.  I really liked both Oz and Jane.  The fighting between them was amusing.  I also loved how they brought Jane’s parents into the story.  Will definitely check out the next story in the series.

Steampunk Cyborg by Eve Langlais – 2*

Agatha “Aggie” Bowles goes to a romance convention with her friends she ends up being kidnapped by a steampunk cyborg. Jwlls, pronounce Jules, kidnaps Aggie to get the cog that is hanging around her next. It is a priceless treasure that the cyborgs need.

I really wanted to like this story as I love most of Eve Langlais’ books but other than the writing being spot on like all of her books I hated this book. There is the insta attraction which doesn’t work for me. A woman who has been kidnapped and of course she wants to sleep with her kidnapper almost immediately after being taken. When she discovers that the only way for Jwlls and his friends to get the artifact is for her to die she takes off. He catches up to her almost immediately and is all apologetic about what his friends wanted but he loved her too much to do that. The end. That is literally how it goes. If you are looking for a good book I would not recommend this one but she has several others that are amazing and funny.

Crazy - Eve Langlais - 5 stars

Ella's always heard voices.  Her parents institutionalized her at a young age. Everyone calls her crazy until she meets a vampire and the voices finally shut up.  Zane just wants to have his usual banquet of different blood when he stumbles onto Ella.  He rescues her with plans to seduce her but the voices won't allow him near her.  He's determined to have her and give her a Happily Ever After.

The relationship between Ella and Zane was amusing and you could feel the chemistry between them.  Zane actively tried to find out what was going on with Ella and help her understand and control her powers.  The best part of the book is when Ella saves herself from the bad guy.  Yes, Zane could and would have saved her but she saves herself.

Can't wait for the next book in the series.

Audio:

Overall 5 stars

Performance 4 stars

Story 5 stars

The only issue I had with the audio was switching between Sumer Morton and Lee Samuels.  At times it was a little jarring.  Individually they were both amazing but switching between took me out of the story.
